I Just got an Oregon 450, (three weeks ago) and I was using the carabener that comes with it. Well i hooked it on my belt loop, let go of the gps and the strap the holds the device to the carabener slipped off, gps goes down and the screen gets cracked. Garmin's CS is closed today, so I will call tomorrow.
Does anyone know what I should expect? Will they cover it because it was there carabener that fell off, or will I have to pay? This is my first Garmin, so I have never delt with Customer Service. |

Garmin had GREAT customer service. I would think they would either fix it or send you a new one asap. |

Yes, call CS tomorrow and they should have you ship it out for free and either replace the unit or fix the screen. |

You guys are are making me very happy that I own a 76Cx. I have completely abused my GPS, such as dropping it on a rock from 30 feet up in a tree, dunking it in lakes and rivers 10-15 times, smacking it into rocks while on a lanyard on my neck an untold number of times, and worst, my wife using it to break her fall when tripping on a pebble on a paved trail. The paint is a bit scratched up, and there are a few minor scratches on the screen, but this thing just keeps on going. Maybe that Oregon just isn't for me... |

Sometimes ya gotta live on the edge...I wouldn't trade it for any other unit currently on the market...the camera and paperless...plus the great routing; I love it. But yes there is a degree of risk with these units in as far as screen damage goes.

My oregon has taking a few beatings in the few weeks I owned, It just happen to fall right, landed on the screen at the right angle and smashed the LCD. The csx series is ment to be more rugged, and take more hits. If its working for you great! I just would miss my paperless on one device ( sure I have an Android phone with caching apps) but its nice to be able to have it all on one. |

They are going to cover the unit! I do have to return my unit first, they are going to see if they can fix it or they are going to send a new one. I already dropped the old off at UPS so I should get it back or the new one late this week or early next week. They also through in a new carabeaner that is guaranteed not to slip. Very happy with the result. Just going to suck not having it for a week. |

You will have a new one by Friday I bet.
This is why it would be very hard for me to own anything but a Garmin.
Had issues with my Map60CSx and was out of warranty and replaced it free of charge and was sent in and received back in 5 days. |

We had a similar experience with a Garmin unit. Who else replaces stuff that's out of warranty free with no questions asked? |

Bet they wouldn't do anything for my GPS. My eMap is pretty much an antique |
