If you really want to conquer one.... Try contacting a cache owner of one of the Wherigos. I found them to be very helpful when I built mine....

However, a word of warning... The programs to set one up can be very confusing, so I'd only attempt it if you're good with computers and logic. And it's EXTREMELY time consuming. I spent close to 100 hours working on mine. And after I built it and thought I had a working program, it turned out that it worked on Colorados but not most Oregons. Very frustrating.

But don't let me scare you. It's rewarding if it works. And lots of fun for other geocachers to play! Smile

Dry run went well.

Guess I have some logic and sense of how this stuff works. Spent about and hour getting my first cartridge set up and it seems to test out fine in the Emulator. But the real world I am sure is a different story.

Duplicate Bridge Tournament is being replaced as a WhereIGo just to get a feel for these things. Pretty simple cartridge with nothing more than proximity triggers and object calls. When I get to the Artisans of Appleton WIG's it's gonna get quite a bit more complicated with Q&A tasks, but after reading all the threads on people's frustrations with building cartridges, I'm pretty relieved at this point to know that I can get a simple built in an hour.

Cool idea, I'm glad I got the hand I did when I did though because that is a cool cache. Are you keeping the same theory? I'd be willing to take a test run with the Blackberry or iTouch if you're looking for a "local" guinea pig.

Alex, You're running on a Mac, right? I'm on a PC. For some unexplained reason, when I was trying to build mine, I'd be able to save my work, but then never be able open it up again. I'd get some conflict error about a 64 bit thing. I wonder if I used a Mac if I could get things to work out. GLS says his system runs on Vista also and he never got that message. Go figure.

I have given up, as the place I'd intended to have the final has been taken over and I don't want to compromise and stick it somewhere else that has no connection to my topic and storyline. But I have all the hours of research, photos and storyline all written up in case things change down the road, and I'd still like to make it work. This was going to be the WRR 31 cache, too.

Actually, there is no builder for the Mac that I can use as I have reached a ceiling on my older G5. I cannot upgrade to Intel based system until I buy a new computer and am maxed out at OSX 10.4. This leaves me with a HTC phone I can't sync, meaning no music or contacts from my system and a whole slew of other latency issues I've been dealing with of late. At some point I have to bit the bullet...

So, I decided that I would give it a shot a work, off hours, using my PC workstation there. Used the most recent Builder and everything seemed to work just fine. However, since I haven't field tested, I can't be sure it will work in practice. I was able to build and test using the Emulator in just a few hours, which is all I wanted to put in at this point until I know that I have a good handle on it.

So, CJ, if you want to give it a dry run, go for it. The cartridge is already published on Whereigo while the GC listing is pending. Would be nice to know how well it works and how close my hot spots are and if they need adjustment.

I'd like to help you out and am going to PM you on the particulars of this situation to see what I can do. I'd consider it another step in my own learning curve.

Also, while your final location is now taken, perhaps the workaround is simply one where you add additional task or stop at that destination with an additional "Congratulations, You just finished this Whereigo Cartridge" step with the inclusion of "now proceed to N--W-- to log the final". As with many of my own puzzle caches, where there is a proximity conflict, there are workarounds where I can still incorporate landmarks or historical POI's, even within a dozen feet of another cache, without impacting either. Something to think about.

Thanks Alex, We have been thinking about ways we might be able to work around it. I've put a lot of time and research into this, as well as obtaining permissions, and it would be nice to see this through to completion some time.

Very common to the cartridge files to be corrupted. There is a patch for 64 bit. Some say it does make a difference.
