We discovered this Mega Event next summer. GC2921G I have been to Wales twice (sans GPSr) and have scrolled around and discovered tons of letterbox hybrids in a part of North Wales I wanted to revisit anyway...Snowdonia.
Can Trekkin' be convinced to board an airplane? He's a non-drinker, so it's not like I can get him to have a couple at the airport lounge. If anyone here has overcome a fear of air travel, please share your stories. Don't share any scary ones. That's why he won't fly, we had one of those ourselves! |

Crap I so want to bring up the TSA...
I think that many of us have that one flight story...I do as well. But after taking over a dozen cross country flights in the past 7 years I have to say that flying these days is much like taking a bus.
In reality though many of our flight scares were well under control by the powers that be....we just don't get all the information we need to come to that comforting conclusion on our own.
Besides, if you have the means, you should explore your planet! Life is too short not to live it to your full capacity. We as a group are explorers; what a tragedy for us not to do what we love.
Also a couple of Diazepam can easily be obtained from his Dr. and those should relieve any flight anxiety he has. Diazepam is often used by those with severe flight anxiety. |

Yeah Gary, I try not to think about the TSA stuff, but it's part of the process. If he won't fly, I'll probably do what I've done many times....find a friend who wants to go. Newfoundland, Hawaii, four People to People trips....there is always a way! He won't take the drug, either. So basically as far as trying to calm him, I'm outta luck. Our scary flight was truly scary and it took me 14 years to move beyond it. There's just something about a near crash in the North Sea that kind of kills the joy for you.
I'd be happy if we could ever pull off even a long distance driving trip. Something always seems to come up....new grandkids, miserable weather, no dog sitter available. These days, we consider it a gift to make it as far as Duluth. |

He told me the story of your trip, and if I totally see why he doesnt want to fly.
I used to hate flying scared me so bad, and then I had to do it for work almost monthly between madison and DC. I had to be medicated to do it at first, and then slowly got used to it and can fly with no drugs now. Would statistics help convince him? |

I'm sure he's heard this before, but he has probably done several 4* caches that were much more dangerous than flying!
But Madden had a bus and if he couldn't take it, he didn't go. Like caching, your at the mercy of the weather and other variables. If you can except that going in, it helps to cope.
I've always wanted to go to Wales myself! I've got the passport so put me on standby! |

Or GPS's.........................
Now then, if his memory is on par with yours, then toss this on his bucket list when he's not looking: "ISS geocache." If you can convince him to go for the Geocache on the International Space Station, Wales would be a piece of cake! (S'pose you could try to just land there on the way back..........) |

Mike, that is EXACTLY what Trekkin' says.
I don't know if we have the means or not, would have to look into costs. But since I'm *probably* retiring after this school year, it could be a great way to celebrate. |

Gwyn,
Why dont you try telling him that if does not want to go, you will just go anyway and take me?
I took my daugther Rachel to Wales when she turned 18, and we loved it. We visited a lot of old castles, and especially enjoyed Conwy, on the north coast of Wales. Fantastic castle, great town, and a great place to watch the tide come in.

Ralph, I visited Conwy on one of my trips there and agree. Upon returning home, I discovered I probably walked right past any number of geocaches.
I vowed I would return and hike the trails in Snowdonia. That's not right in the mega event area, but it's not a big country and we could certainly go there before or after. I think it would be just grand. |

And I vowed i would return to Conwy. And yeah, there is a Coastal Castle series in north Wales so Rachel and I visited a bunch of old castles. There is one just outside of the gates of the Conwy Castle.

No but your significantly closer to the ground to start and sure more people die in car crashes than plane but I'll take the odds on surviving a car crash over a plane crash any day.
It'd be the round-about way but what about a cruise to get you there back? Maybe you could work-cruise like some rvr's work-kamp. Maybe be dance hosts like in "out to sea" |

I do know someone who got passage for an Inside Passage Cruise providing storytelling. Closest I've come to that is a trip on the Julia Belle Swain up to the lock and dam on the river....telling stories for my fare. |
