Just for fun I thought I would see what other areas have to offer for caches in terms of difficulty and terrain versus the ones in Wisconsin. I came across this waypoint: GCK5FK
I laughed my butt off reading the cache page and wondering how this one got approved. Glad to see our caches aren't so bad.

Anyone up for the challenge? Image

So if minefields only rate a 4 1/2 terrain.... What would they consider a 5?

Ok, I have a few now, heh heh....

GCHCW7 (Ross Island Rock) - Not many of us around here will do a 6 mile roundtrip hike for a cache....

GC5803 (As North As It Gets!) - Ummmm, anything placed by an "Iceshelf Research Team" makes *me* think twice!

GC8074 (El Conquistador's Treasure) - My favorite line: "The descent down the mountain toward the glacier is very steep, nearly 45 degrees with about a 1400 foot elevation drop." Oy.

Well, its a 5 if you have to use special equipment - like a helicopter - to traverse the minefield or climb the 'Elevation gain is about 1200' in 1/2 mile'.

Caching Out - what do you think?

The metal detectors to locate the land mines are no problem. Using frequent flyer miles to reach Afghanistan could be feasable. But this: "Must check-in with Camp Phoenix Joint Operations Center for approval to enter area of cache." may prove more difficult than it sounds.
Team Badger: "Excuse us sir, but we are here to find a ziplock baggie using GPS recievers"
Camp Commander: "Sure, and after you find that, I've got something else hiding just across the Pakistan border I'd like you to find"
Team Badger: "Sorry sir, locationless caches are no longer being approved"
Camp Commander: "Lieutenant, see that these new recruits get a hot meal before being sent out on tonights recon patrol."

No one's even attempted in since it was listed July 30th. I guess the 45th Infantry Brigade coin wasn't enough incentive.

CHEESE AND RICE!!!

Heres a note posted by someone there:
>>>Look for piles of rocks, sticks with tin cans / bottles on or long lines of string/rope. These denote minefields. Not all are marked though.<<<

Sounds like places where caches are hidden too! No bushwackin on this one!

Hey I found it! hooti..BOOM! Took McAfghani Cous Cous meal toy, left arm...and a leg.

What an idiot that placed this.

I have to wonder if the person who placed this one is actually stationed at the base there. Perhaps the group was sitting around chatting one night and he told them about Geo...from there some conversation came about where he thought it would be amusing to see how many people would write a note about this cache. Most likely there was no expectation of attempted finds...it was simply a way to get something to smile about. And perhaps the approver thought the same thing, "Yeah, right...LOL! Like anyone is going there. What the heck...I'll put it through just for S's & G's. I wonder if they'd like to read this thread...hmmm....
