Well, I had an eye check-up in Green Bay on Friday and on my return as the boat approached the ferry dock; I started to focus on the large group of bundled people there. Nothing new I thought, family out to greet friends or relatives.
Being towards the unloading end of the boat, I was immediately aware of a wild and wonderful percussion performance starting as the first vehicle pulled off. I was about forth in line to depart the ferry so I slowly pulled off and traveled as slow as I dared to avoid the honking of those behind me. As I drove down the narrow dock I passed a lone drummer with his full drum set resting in the snow on the side. He was unleashing riff after riff his sticks dancing and spinning in the air. I wanted to pull off to the side and soak up this limited engagement but the only narrow spot you dare to pause at had been grabbed by one of the vehicles in front of me. As I slowly passed I scanned and searched the scene trying to figure out who this might be. The base had “Electric Kitten” painted on it, not familiar. I didn’t recognize any specific faces in the bundled crowd. I have several students in my art class who have been talking about “their band" for weeks and I had been encouraging them to get out and do it. Could this be one of them?
Guess I’ll have to ask around on Monday at school. Just couldn’t make out the face of this great percussionist. You see, he was wearing an oversized, gray and furry rabbits head. Floppy ears and all.
