My wife and I may be going "Up an over" on a return trip from Michigan in a few weeks - depending on whether we can find some good cache stops up there or not. Has anyone been up that way and can recommend some neat places to stop? We appreciate your help and experience Smile

We'd be leaving from Grand Rapids, going over Makinaw bridge, staying SOMEWHERE in the UP, then returning home to Wausau.

Waterfalls, rock formations, lakes, and places like that are of particular interest to us if you know of places like that.

Thanks for your help Smile

Headlands Park just below the bridge is really nice. Not a lot of caches, but when I was there in May, I had it all to myself. It's one of the dark sky locations, too, for good night sky viewing.

Pictured Rocks lakeshore has a lot of ECs and really, anywhere along the lake is nice. Even the park and grabs there are nice. Olson Memorial Falls near Munising is a must do, if you can get there. Jim and Cathy probably have many more recommendations, as they get up there quite often. Also, do NOT, I repeat, do not miss the virtual at Lakenenland. I hear there is also a physical cache there now.

Don't know if they are any good, but if you want some numbers see GC2XMAT Push - Pull Midnight Power Trail. 200 hides with reflectors.

The Marquette / Ishpeming area has a lot of high quality caches. We've been very impressed every time we've been up there visiting our kids.

Most likely a bit out of your travel path, but I enjoyed it immensely in June...

The Keweenaw Peninsula and the Mandan Road. 20+caches, several Virtuals dependent on your route and you hit HWY 51 on your return. Copper Harbor is rustic and beautiful and I am already planning to go back. The 20+ caches on the Mandan Road are well done and the road(?) is a riot if you don't drive a subcompact.

I second the motion. I was just there yesterday and today and I'm never disappointed when I go there. That area has a nice mix of P & G's to go with nice hikes in several parks.

Barry, thanks for those suggestions, I'll look through them and add them to my list if they work out!

I've selected several in the Marquette area - it looks like it will be alot of fun. Plus I've marked most of the waterfalls mentioned!

Mike, I'll try to get it out to you. Smile

I know I've already got more than we can handle but it's better to pick too many than too few right!? Laughing
