here is another one of those geocaching "evolution" things.
caches are hid and marked very clearly "park and grabs" you put the coords in and goto ground zero and you find the cache exactly as published right where it should be. That is how geocaching started.
then parks got filled....bike paths got filled... caches were being muggles becuase they were easy to find. then caches got smaller and smaller and smaller. Then you weren't hiding from muggles..you were trying to "Stump" geocachers.
you see s park bench hide.. then a lamp post... then a sign. New hiding places open up and you see many similar hides.
many bike trails have caches every 529 ft. many parks have park bench hides. Many shoping ceters have lamp posts.
If you know where you are going.. you know what to expect.
I did the p&g series but only a couple at a time. Then I hiked a couple days. then a few more p&g. It's how I felt on the day.
"Power Trails" are all over it you need many caches at a time.
it was really nice to go to ground zero and the cache is right there. Been a long time. Too many easy ones is no fun and Too many "hahah gotcha hides" is no fun either. I balance my own activtiy to keep it all fresh to me.

Well put, Ryan. I myself at one time wondered why micros were placed in spots where larger-sized containers could be placed, but soon found out that kids can hang out in the woods as well and come across these containers and take them. I've had enough 'regular' containers muggled in spots I thought no one would venture to. As far as points of interests go...there's only so many waterfalls and gorges or bluffs to go around. Besides,Lots of states have Power Trails these days. The sport has changed in a way, but it still has a lot to offer.

I am guilty of everything and anything..
I have hid:
parking meter(I am proud of that one. lol)
dead end diamond
my front yard
another cachers front yard(haha got you Tomk.)
but I am a container guy too. some times the location has nothing to offer but the container is a gem.
three blind mice
18 inch Ray Charles
frozen han solo
darth vaders Tie-figher
3 foot key
I also had a seed cache at one point. large cache that spit 35 micros out of it.
all caches big or small..common or not add to the game.

I have some cache hides that require long walks where there are no trails, or use of a watercraft. These are seldom visited. I also have some park and grabs on the side of the road. These get visited a lot more. As a CO, that tells me that most people prefer the P&G's over the caches that require more work. I try to vary my hides so that there are some for everyone. I know cachers who are not physically able to hike a mile to find an ammo can, but can manage the walk from their car to the speed limit sign without a problem. There also may be a reason that the CO chose the spot. Maybe it is by a friend's house, or by a favorite hunting or camping spot. I drove 60 miles out of my way to get an FTF on a micro on the side of the road today.
I too have a variety of hides. I too have lost at least 8 ammo cans. OUCH. Unfortunately, I can't continue to put out ammo cans at every location even when space allows for it. I do use higher quality matchsticks as opposed to film canisters to help manage upkeep. The joy isn't always finding an ammo can, although it is nice, but rather where the cache location takes you or the spot that is revealed.
As Big Jim stated I try to make a variety of hides so all cachers have access to my caches, not just my paddle caches which require more work and effort to get to. Just have fun!
