There are many avenues for helping the WGA to be a sucessful organization. For example, planning and hosting events is an important part of what the WGA does. Committees for membership, education, web site, geocoins as well as some temporary committees exist and are open to volunteers.

During the past year, how many WGA sponsored events did you attend? At which of those events, if any, were you able to volunteer to help make the event a success?

During the past year, which, if any, of the WGA committee did you volunteer to work on?

Feel free to elaborate on any of these questions.

This past year I attended WGA Picnic, WGA Chili Feed, and the WGA Pancake Breakfast @ The West Bend Cache Bash, I volunteered at the Pancake Breakfast in West Bend.

I am currently a member of the website committee.

In the past I have volunteered at numerous pancake breakfasts, WGA Highway Cleanups, and Caching 101 Classes.

In addition I have taught Geocaching at The Five-Star University of Scouting which was held at Lakeshore Technical College in 2011, and volunteered at the 2010 BayLakes Council Jamboree at the Geocaching activity which was held in Oshkosh. While volunteering at both of these events I actively promoted the WGA.

Geocoin Committee
Membership Committee

As an incumbent Director, working on making these events successful is part of the job but until you work on event planning and seeing it through to completion, it is hard to get a good idea of how much time is involved.

What really makes the events successful is in seeing those that attend, enjoying the time together.

First of all, I was not on any of the WGA Committees, although 3 years ago, I reintroduced the idea of sub-committees in the Forums, to alleviate the burden of the BOD doing everything, and getting all the blame if something went wrong! By delegating some of the organizational responsibilities to member volunteers, it did lighten the load, and shifted some responsibility to the membership. This also prepares members for future leadership roles in the association.

As far as participation last year:
Organized and co-hosted the Cachers and Cattails WGA LCG Event at the Int'l Center in Horicon, along with Sagasu (with 2 WGA Events being held there in February, I get a little warm and fuzzy about that!).

WGA Appleton CITO Potluck(arrived late for the meal...sorry)
Co-hosted CacheVenture Meet 'N' Greet during EAA at Oshkosh
West Bend Cache Ba$h attendee on Friday

I also made a presentation on Geocaching to the Fond du Lac Elks Club, a presentation on Geocaching at the Int'l Visitor Center in Horicon, hid temp caches for a local 4-H club for their June meeting at Hobbs Woods, and hid temp caches on the Laconia High School grounds as part of a Science Class project.

I was also the featured geocacher on the front page of the May 8, 2011 Action Sunday paper, which was distributed to 1700 households in the area.

All of these things were fun in different ways, and I look forward to continuing to educate the community, whether elected or not.
