According to Wiktionary a game is: (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/game)
Quote:
A pursuit or activity with rules performed either alone or with others, for the purpose of entertainment. In many games, the objective is to win by defeating the other player or players or being the first to reach a specified goal, while in others, role-playing or cooperation is emphasized.

Ah. Rules. Since there are only guidelines, it isn't a game.
Then again... I sometimes drive around for no other reason than for entertainment. Driving has rules.
Aw man.... Now we're right back to square one.

What was the question again? Oh yeah. Opinions on "found it" verification. If I'm going to find a CJ cache, I'm probably going to be finding 30-50 other caches on the same day. I probably won't be able to remember the specific vertical position of any single cache. I would probably fail your test.
Using physical logs or online logs for any kind of purpose in an ancillary game would be unreliable at best.

But I bet you would at least email me back and be honest that you didn't remember.

And I would never delete a log from the cat as it could have a profound negative impact. wink

BTW, CJ, I deleted your pm without reading. No offense meant. You play the "game" your way. I play my "hobby" my way.

Now let's move on as it looks like this topic is.... Image

In response to your question, you are not allowed to use ALRs to verify signatures. You verify signatures by going out and looking at the log. Of course, you can request other info, but you can't delete logs on that basis

But that is what did happen.

She didn't answer your emails because she had no reason to prove anything to you and was not happy about your accusations. So you deleted her log.

I was trying to come up with something funny about poison ivy or burrs, but I couldn't match enough words.

additional logging requirements like the photos that used to be required for EC's.

Well, don't do that again! Whoever "she" is can petition Groundspeak to get their log restored or just relog it.

No date on the log by the signature and I have a photo of the signature on the log from 2 days prior to the "found it" that just happens to be extremely similar to other signatures on the same day.

I certainly don't dispute that the people that were there for the FTF didn't all have one person sign and I'm completely OK with that.

The verification was for the side game of Survivor and I stated the log would not be deleted. I was just trying to verify the side game contestants were playing "fair". I don't believe Groundspeak has any stake in the Survivor portion of this though.

I feel 100% justified in deleting a "Found" log that was dated 2 days after the other similar signatures. This would have been completely fine if the finder would have just said - I must have gotten the day wrong. No response to a simple question of "What day did you find it?" to keep the log. I would have even accepted a response of "ALR's are not required" but they did nothing to help themselves ensure it was them that signed it.

I'm glad my misery is entertaining someone. Laughing I'm afraid it would have to now be annoying LARGE rash now. Sad

Sorry to hijack the thread, back to beating the dead horse now?

Yes, I would email back. No repercussiions for deleted logs. There will always be more caches to log. But, it might affect which caches I choose not to do in the future.

I really do like the added "fun" of caches like your "Survivor", but "buddy logging" would be very hard to thwart. It's an open loop system. Without ID verification, there is really no way to know who signed the log.

Hmm....
Fingerprint reader: $20
PocketPC from eBay: $15
Just need a web service to do all the work...

I need to stop thinking about this because it's starting to sound feasible.

I find it funny that you are so worried about who signs the logs when you were the first one to originally suggest alliances and team work. No, I don't mean your "joking" post of someone sign the log for me. I mean your email to a certain cachet when the game first started saying, I live far away and will. It be able to get to the survivor caches quickly but I will exchange my puzzle solving skills to be on an alliance because, after all, isn't that what survivor is all about.

But now since you "took your kayak and went home" you are worried about signatures?

I think all should be reminded that when this subject was started, no names or specific caches were mentioned and it should've stayed that way.

Address you individual beefs with each other in private or keep the topic and discussion general or I'm telling mom.
