The mere thought of a tick vomiting, defecating or urinating on me is more than I care to imagine at the moment Image

Traditional removal methods such as tweezers (with or without twisting), fingers, petroleum jelly, fingernail polish, applying kerosene or use of a hot match head are not recommended as any one of these procedures can cause the tick to vomit, defecate or urinate. This can increase the likelihood of infection as the infectious agents are within the tick’s bodily fluids.

I was hiking around Paradise Springs yesterday and the place was lousy with them. I thought I got all of them off and got the clothes in the wash. Tonight I went for a motorcycle ride through Eagle and south of Whitewater. Never got off the bike. Got back here and while sitting at the computer, feel something crawling up my leg! Another darned wood tick! Fortunately none of them chewed in the skin. Must be that Hartz collar doing its job.

Eww... read Marky's logs here starting with May 3rd and moving up for a um... lovely tick story.

There's also some interesting tick info here and how they go about latching on in the first place.

(smiles)..

We have ticks here and in IL so moving or not moving anywhere isn't going to help (grins).. Just remember if you grab the thing to jerk it off.. that their mouthpart might be left behind.. THAT just happened last night. I had to take a tweezers and grab on to the 'hard' part and really tug.. after I ripped the lil guy off me.. so if you are the type like me.. the "get it off NOW" types.. that this could happen.

Last year I learned a valuable lesson.. not to fear them that much because it costs big bucks to go to the doctor.. I thought I had one in my ear.. kept 'tickling' so off I went to the walk-in.. between the new patience charges and the guy asking about my poison ivy.. it cost me 98 dollars.. no tick (grins)..

The higher the DEET only means it lasts longer.. I was lucky to buy about 12 cans of Sportsmen formula REPEL 29%DEET at 3bucks a pop. Used 1 can already this season.

I hate the lil B's but because of this sport it comes with the territory.. I believe those nightmare stories are because they just thought they were taking a walk in the city park system.. and took no precautions.
