Check Craigslist. I'm seeing a few ammo boxes popping up on there. They could be legit. But it would not hurt to look if it looks familiar.

Here's one for example.

I too have lost a cache or two. One that bothered me was losing a "keyholder" after almost 5 years of being in the same location. As it turns out, it showed up in another cachers Cache container! The cache was a final of a long series (Battleship Weston). Hmmmm......

I too have decided to make more caches "Premium Only" caches although some which are P and G's and require less maintenance will be made available for all cachers.

I am very soured on ammo cans. They are simply too good of a prize for people to steal.

Our largest problem has come from a geocaching class that goes on during the summer through the school. It's no surpise that after they take a few dozen kids out to go caching, the nicest containers disappear in a few days.

You just have to wonder sometimes, don't you? I did see a thread on the groundspeak forums on this very subject, so it's not just here. Wonder why in the world anyone would take those last two containers, shrek? Not that it makes the ammo can okay. It's theft, no matter what they take. Sad.

I've made some interesting changes to the four caches that were stolen. The cache with one of the ammo boxes in going to be archived...I know of another cacher that would like to put out a cache in the park it was located in. The other ammo box is now CHAINED in place...also made it a Premium Member only cache. The cute pill bottle (dressed up like a butterfly) has been relocated...also made a Premium Member only cache cuz it's part of WI Hibiscus' Social Butterfly series. The 35 mm film cannister is back in place but it's now a dummy container...a second container (not a film cannister) is nearby. Will see what happens...and now back to your regular entertainment Bartrod

You may find this hard to believe but some non-geocachers do not like geocaching, and I would not put it past them to do vigilante removals. Of course that doesn't explain the episodes where the contents are still left alone.

I think a year or so ago, Todd300 posted the url for a blog that espoused this cleansing sentiment.

I did. I lost the link to that. Might take me time to find it. If I do, I'll repost it.

You could all save me a bunch of time if you'd just list weather your final is an ammo can or not right in the cache title....I hate having to take the time to get to final locations only to find out you used Tupperware. I can't resell Tupperware...

I propose everyone make this easier...if you have an ammocan as the final your cache name should be: "Steal this Ammocan: (then insert city name here)."

For example I have two ammocans at Lapham Peak. Those I should rename "Steal this ammocan: Lapham 1" and "Steal this ammocan: Lapham 2." Seriously, think of all the time and gas money you'll be saving folks by renaming your listings...

I had to archive the entire grid for my battleship series in Wausau because someone kept taking all the caches on one stretch of road. Plus an ammo can at one of the ships was replaced by a Cache To eagle Cache container. I personally know how frustrating it is when a cache is stolen!

Pretty certain one of my ammo cans was discovered and taken by a hunter due to its location. I was actually glad they left the contents bagged at the site.

I have a few LARGE ammo cans now but not sure how they will be utilized in the field. Chains, Cables, Barbed wire, C4, Field Camera, Padlocks, big dogs....

Just waiting for someone to try to take my TB hotel ammo can from my front yard. In the crotch of a large tree 100+ feet from the road. Only issue I have had with it is that sometimes a turkey will sit up there and knock it on the ground. Laughing

If they try to take it, my 'attack' cats will be all over them. Very Happy
