Hello to all WGA Members,
My name is Barry Butrymowicz, my wife Valarie and I make up “sweetlife” we have been geocaching since the Fall of 2004.
Our family is comprised of our pets, and we look at them as our children. We have 3 Dogs; 2 yorkies one is a rescue, a Dachshund/Jack Russel Mix that came from a no kill shelter, and the newest addition to our family is a Blue and Gold Macaw, also a rescue.
A little more about myself. I'm 40 years old, live in Mountain, a small town in Oconto County in the Northeast part of Wisconsin. For the past 15 years I've been in the Construction Industry building homes and cottages in the northwoods. Currently I hold the position of Assistant Chief for the Riverview Fire Department. I also volunteer with the Mountain Ambulance Service as a driver 3 nights a week, and extrication technician.
For Christmas in 2003 Valarie bought me a book of the 101 waterfalls of the UP of Michigan. That winter I used mapping programs to get the GPS coordinates and entered them in a loaner Garmin GPS12. That spring and summer we traveled all over the UP finding and photographing the great outdoors. We were introduced to Geocaching in the fall of 2004, and honestly it sounded a bit lame, but we figured what the heck, lets try it. Since then we have cached in 26 states, parts of Canada, and have over 7400 finds. Most weekends grabbing a few smileys. We have visited most of those waterfalls again this time to find the cache hidden there, that sometimes we were literally feet away from many years ago.
The last 2 years on the BOD has been a great experience, both years serving as the secretary. It has been great meeting many of you at events over the last few years. Geocaching is like a big family and we have made many friends over the years.
Thanks to those who nominated me, and I look forward to answering questions from the members over the next month.
See you on the trail
Barry of sweetlife
