Hello, my name is Tim Saavedra and I geocache by the name of: TJSAAVEDRA
(Tee-Jay-Sa-Vee-Dra). My last name is Spanish in origin, and in Spanish the “Vee” sound would be said “Vay”. I have heard at a few events that the name has confused some of you. I am 51 years old and married to Kelly, we live in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, which is pretty close to the center of the state. I work for Corenso North America in Wisconsin Rapids as a machine operator and have been employed there just over 25 years. Kelly is the Rubber Stamp and Scrapbook manager at Light House Books and Gifts also in Wisconsin Rapids, she’s been there just over 12 years. We have two adult children from my previous marriage, Tim Jr. who has been residing in Sleepy Eye, MN and Cassie who resides in Rudolph, WI. Kelly and I are originally from Racine, WI, where we went to Junior and Senior High School together, but we never dated. After graduation, we went out and into the world heading our own separate ways, until we were reacquainted at our 20th H.S. Reunion in September of 2000 and we married one year later.
Before my eyes were opened to geocaching I was into metal detecting, I still take detectors with me just in case I see an area of interest. I started geocaching at the urging of Don K. of “2nd time around“. Don is a co-worker at Corenso N.A. and friend who would come into work telling me of the interesting hides he had found and showing me some of the neat Trackable items he was moving along. He kept saying, “You should get into geocaching, I know you’d love it” or he’d show me some Boy Scout Geocoin or Travel Bug and say, “You should be doing this, you’re into Scouts” I then asked Kelly if maybe Santa might leave me a GPS reciever under the tree…So it started right after Christmas of 2008, I had found a cache in the snow just off the bike trail in Wisconsin Rapids and then found myself competing with another cacher trying to see who could find the cache that had a trackable in it first, I found it after he gave up and I was hooked… By New Years Eve a normal three hour trip to Racine became just over six hours. I then found out I loved to cache in the dark too. So, over the last four years of driving up to Rhinelander for Scout Camps, or Sayner for Rubber Stamp and Scrap Shows, Medford for Men’s Retreats, getting some driving miles under my daughters belt for her D.L. and Racine and Kenosha to family and friends I have found a few geocaches and attended a few events. Kelly likes going to events and will cache with me at times, and at times I drop her off at a Steins, JoAnns, Michaels, or a Hobby Lobby and I cache like crazy until she calls me to pick her up. She does like geocaching with me when we’re cruising, only two so far in the Caribbean we get to see some neat things of the beaten path that way, and we can say We’ve cached to Hell (Grand Cayman) and back.
Thank You to whoever had nominated me to the WGA Board of Directors, what a surprise and honor to have someone think so highly enough of me to think I would be a good fit on the Board of Directors. I know who made the second on my nomination, Thank You Too. To tell you all the truth any one of these nominees are and would be a great fit to the WGA Board. I am honored to be named among them. I will serve to the best of my ability if elected in and you can still count on me to help out any way I can when I’m available even if I’m not elected to the Board. I do love geocaching, exploring, and meeting people. Thank you for getting to know who I am, I look forward to answering your questions.
Tim Saavedra,
