I only attended a couple of events in the few years since I joined this group, but I really appreciate and learned a lot from the discussions on the forum page. I haven’t placed any caches, and I don’t think I ever will, but I have learned what you CO’s expect from other cachers visiting your caches. From the activity on this web site and events that are planned/held I can tell that some people really work hard – thanks.
I was hoping to attend the recent events in Waukesha and Horicon, but it didn’t happen (I have a new grandson and another one plays hockey)! O’well maybe next time!
I was surprised to see, what I thought, was a low voter turn-out (117 members). It made we wonder how many members are there? From what I could gather from the different pages these are the numbers I found.
There are 125 members listed on the member map
The member list shows 5,180 (3,906 of these never posted anything to a forum).
I hope I’m not looking at it correctly.
BTY – I did follow the candidates discussions and I tried to make an informed vote.
Thanks again for all the work you do. |

Maybe in the future an email should be sent out to all the members so there are more members that vote. |

There are many more members in the WGA than the vote shows, but sending a email to all members is not an option. Wording in the SPAM act does not allow us to send mass mailings unless the member has allowed us to send email to them. This is why we moved to using Mail Chimp for our newsletters instead of trying to manage the list ourselves. |

please also remember that this is the entire members list from the beginning of the WGA.
This list includes 10 years of people registering and perhaps, like you note, never post anything. It is difficult to get a solid "active" membership number.
117 voters is actually on par with past elections and we are always looking for ways to better retain our membership so the WGA grows.
Keep in mind that this is a hobby we all share and that sometimes life priorities take center stage.
There are many who were here at the beginning that have either cut way back or quit caching all together. |

Congratulations to the 2 new and 2 re-elected board members.
Even though the voter turnout is consistently low we all owe those voters, the members who choose to run for the board and the current and past board members our gratitude for serving all Wisconsin geocachers.
What Pete said is right on the mark. This is a hobby and not a lifetime commitment (well maybe for some) and members come and go. The only way though that the WGA remains viable is that the members who benefit from it's existence also consider giving back in any way that their time allows. |

At the risk of dragging this thread even more off-topic...
Voting this year is on par with last year, but down considerably from years previous to that, and only half what it was in 2009. While the WGA did fulfill the requirements of the by-laws in notifying members of the upcoming election, sending out an email (newsletter) to all members that have not opted-out is most certainly an option, and should have been done.
Congratulations to the two new members of the WGA Board of Directors. |

Congratulations on a job that does not pay well, but deserves all the respect that can be given. |
