...Acutally...I'd be all over it! It would definately have to be on the "No whining" channel! Anyone know what channel that is?

I have to agree with PHPBB, and would throw in http://www.postgresql.org/ for the database. While MySQL is very fast, PostgreSQL has many powerful features of a true database (like rollback). I *might* even be able to donate some time, but that is very dependant on what projects I'm working on.

Of course, I also suggest this photo for the WGA homepage:
Edited to include the originating page which explains the context.

Note: You should never include pictures of members on an organization website, it sometimes causes people to get big heads. |

Ok, you got me!
But .... you think that's bad .... ALL of my geocaching pictures of me look that bad or worse! It's the only thing I don't like about geocaching ... it reveal to me that I have very viewable and ugly nostrils!
Here's another example, taken at "I believe" in Mequon ...
... Incredibly similar ... but at least I kept my mouth shut!

Thanks for the info Opossum. PHPbb is set up to support a number of databases including PostgreSQL, so I'll look into it. Later versions of MySQL (>4.0) address some of the shortcomings you mentioned, specifically transactions, while remaining relatively fast.
(FYI: The current WGA site is using MySQL for storing various things including the membership list and COTM and, knock on wood, we haven't had any major problems.) |

Based on the fishcachers bunny/pancake thing, it sounds like the suggestion above might be a good one. |

--On the up side, they're clean nostrils...
Energy Saver: "...at least I kept my mouth shut!"
--I'm not even gonna touch that one!
Cheesehead Dave: "I'm a big user of MySQL..."
--Great! Now you know of something better! (laughing) Nah, really, if WGA
is using MySQL there's probably little reason to switch mid-stream, unless they
want to (re-)write code to use the additional features, and I probably
wouldn't. So, Dave, can the WGA put you down for 40 hours of volunteer work?

Other sites, like http://www.azgeocaching.com/ have put some pretty fancy sites
together. While AZ's may be a bit much for my tastes, can we contact them or
other states and share resources? Keeping scripts working and such has to be a royal
pain whenever GC.com changes something, but if each state maintained one script
and a list of what changed at GC.com, that wouldn't be so bad. I'm not saying
everyone should run off one server with one set of scripts, but a good part of the
scripting and driving mechanics must be sharable, in my very humble (although
outspoken) opinion.
