Well, for those of us that don't have DIY I guess that we are out of luck. Unless, someone could tape it. Perhaps it would make for good viewing at the campout? |

We taped it, and bringing it to the campout is a great idea
It makes for a very good intro to caching... |

How about a lending library type thing. We'd pay postage to see it before the campout. |

Sounds like a good idea. We can copy it also if anyone knows when it will be on next.

Hey, ya know what'd be real FUN....
Get together and make our OWN intro to caching video! We could cover all kinds of handy stuff for the beginner, such as an overview of GPSRs (brands, models, basic usage, etc.), show a basic hunt (from simple planning to the actual find), and cover environmental issues (Leave No Trace, responsible cache placement, etc.). The latter that I mentioned would probably be the greatest service to all, as I remember on my first couple of hunts, I did some excessive bush-whacking, which I now regret. Never realized that most caches are very close to a trail, and that if my GPSR is pointing 500 feet into thich brush and briars, there would almost certainly be a round-about trail leading very close to where I needed to be.
We could implement a wide range of cheesy humor.
Video could be burned to cd-rom in VCD format for a very low-cost distibution method (about 40 cents per copy to make, and less than a buck to mail, so they could be sent free to anyone interested for all practical purposes, or even streamed on the 'net (although bandwidth might make this option cost prohibitive). And of course, good ole VHS is always an option, but the amount of time to make a "lossy" quality copy, plus increased postage would make this a less-than desirable option I guess.
At its worst, we would just have a lot of fun doing something like this, at its best, we could be of some help to beginners, and raise some environmental awareness. Video can do this in ways that words and pictures fall short.
Any thoughts?

Hmm... lots of coincidences poping up this morning.
On the main geocaching forums, Markwell started a thread on cache event momentoes to give out or place in temporary caches at events.
The topic of cd-roms came up, and I just replied that I happen to have a commercial CD duplicator with built-in printer, and buy printable cds in bulk.
That got me to thinking about those small, rectangular 'business card' cd-roms that are given out at conventions etc. I believe that my duplicator can burn and print those as well, I just don't know what we'd put on them (was think of the campout and/or picnic). The business card cds of course hold much less data than a full size cd, but there would be room for something...
Any ideas?
Also, if you want a copy of the DIY tape, email us at cachecows@elknet.net with your address.
