Eh.. I'm 16 years old, new to caching, and I only heard of it since the FOX 6 segment a couple nights ago. I'm thinking of paying for a GPSr, and hoping my mom can come with me so we can both try it out.. However, my mom doesn't really seem interested. I don't really know what I should do, because my mom's the kind of person that doesn't trust a whole lot of (or any) people on the internet. What would you guys suggest I do? |

Johnson's: Thanks, but I've done some research on geocaching (mostly from fellow cachers )so I already tried those reasons..
Priebe's: Thanks for the info, I'll try contacting them to see if I can hop in on a meeting sometime. |

Star_Wolf and mom, I think anyone that likes the outdoors will like geocaching. While the hunting down of the cache is the objective, or destination, it is the journey that is the real pleasure for most. The walk in a park or in the woods or on a trail. It's the time spent with the family or a friend, with a pet or by one's self. It's a little of the high tech world. It's a lot of back to nature. It's 16 year olds wanting to get out and explore. It's retired kids looking to pick up where they left off so many years ago. It's making new friends and looking forward to happening upon them from time to time on the trails. It about getting as involved as you want or not geting involved at all. All it costs is as little as $100 for a simple GPS and a means to travel to the cache sites. And, an inquisitive mind to always wonder what the next adventure will bring. |

Set some time aside this Sunday, Trudy & I will show you and your mom a few caches locally placed that you can get started on. Don't buy the GPS yet. Wait until you and your mom have an opportunity to see how the whole game fits together. Then you will be in a better position to make a decision on what features are important to you and how much you will want to invest.
The other contributors to this thread provide very valuable insight and I personally have great respect for their contributions. Let me know what time You would like to meet on Sunday. We'll set up a starting location and brief itinerary. Or put together a brief list of caches you think you might like to visit. |

4102 Bradley is the right address for Sammy's, we checked in the phonebook. Anyway, I can't wait. All week I've been hoping to get involved with this, so I'm really excited now. |

I knew that, I was just checking to see if you were paying attention
Actually the beast has fat fingers, myopia and dyslexia. It's amazing that I can communicate at all. |

Naturally, my mom's got questions to ask on Sunday.. She really doesn't want to go out in the rain, so I hope we don't ruin your plans by not going out.. I'd feel bad if we went out without her, but she wouldn't let me go out caching with people I don't know. Anyway, we'll likely only be able to talk about it if it's raining. She may tolerate drizzle, but not pouring.. Depends on how the conditions are, likely the decision will have to be made at Sammy's. |

As long as it's not an interrogation, questions are fine. Bring a notebook, we can give you enough to write a small essay. |

I is not often that I can vouch for the sanity of people I have not met but when you consider that Trudy & the Beast have been the only ones not to walk across the ever so tempting approach to Happy Hollow Hollering - That would answer all the questions I would have about those two. As far as I know Natloh2 is the only one to make it across dry and that includes me. |

Oh yeah, just a note.. Yesterday I bought my SporTrak Map! Pestered my mom enough to get it early before Sunday.. I've got the local caches (within about 10 miles, most easy ones, like 1/1 or around that) so you guys won't have to completely lead us around. |
