My camera got beat up pretty good on this one and I came out with a few strains, a sprain, a knee that got really stiff and a good gash across my face. I still have all my extremeties though.

I was with an awesome group of cachers:
jvechinski
geopink
Really I'm not Lost
Digital Dan
Qwerty Too
CacherChick
& NoNameNate - none geocaching friend who loves a great outdoor challenge!!

With this many people Linsey, you should make it an EVENT!! "Gauntlet Go-Getters Event" LOL

As for time it takes to do this...well.. it all dpends on how well we all play together. Arguments on decisions of what to do or not to do, definately slows ya down. Our group worked well together and it still took a lot of time. WATER was a huge issue. That and we had sleet, rain & snow that day!! With the rainfall this spring, water can still be an issue. Read the logs for equipment we all braught. I was packed pretty heavily with knee-high boots, walking stick, a backpack full of necessities like flashlites, TP, food, water, compass, extra batteries, first aid kit, heavy gloves, like a good leather work glove too. At least a 6 pack of H2o each is a good start. Heavy but well worth it. Wadders are better than knee-high muck boots. We took climbing ropes and THAT was a huge help for the people taking the highroad.

It sounds like a lot but well worth it in the end!!

LB7 is arriving solo (unless I end up carpooling with Black Belts or others passing by Oconomowoc on the way). I don't have waders but I do have a climbing harness....if I go high would I need the waders?

Hip waders for slogging thru those horrid thorn bushes.

Headlamps AND Spare Headlamp batteries
Walkie-Talkies AND Spare batteries
GPS AND Spare batteries
Spare Batteries
One change of clothes in pack
One change of clothes in car

Ahhhh...my nemesis...the Gauntlet...what to bring...Oh, don't forget a change of clothes...I really needed it after our trip and I wasn't the only one. Also, for those of you taking the high road DO NOT USE THE VINES as ropes...Commander Bob learned the hard way! If you are afraid of heights and decide to take the low road bring a walking stick for sure it will be well worth it to help to determine how deep parts are...waders will make your job much easier! Regardless of which way you decide to go bring a flashlight!!! (If you have headlamps they would be best as having free hands when you need the flashlights would be very helpful!) Lastly, and most importantly, bring a first aide kit and loads of water!!!

Have a blast...this is one that I will ALWAYS remember!!!

Lets see...Low road - the wadders for sure, but then again, before the spit off, we ALL hit water at one point. If we get any more rain this yr, maybe we should just bring in canoes and take and alternate route LOL Just kidding... more like an ARK!! LOL

LB7 The list looks great. I am trying to remember what I FORGOT the first time. If I think of anything I'll let ya know. Oh.. Is Bug spray on that list?? The skeeters should be out for sure and they grow BIG in them there hills!! And TICKS!! Bring the tick scoops!! As for bears...have not heard of any encouters YET this yr, but pepper spray is a good addition.

Wow, you are obviously really excited about this Anne... take a chill pill or something, as it is still two months away. Image (And are you sure you want to relive this experience? Remember the panic attack on the rocks? Image)

Anyway, I would also like to observe the team that goes after this one... not to give them any clues or anything, just to trail them and see what trouble they get in. I'm also trying to talk Piwko Kurczak into taking the challenge, and could probably take/drive another cacher or two from the Milwaukee area.

RE: Camping. Lorrie (Lil Otter) has offered to allow people to camp at her place which would be about 25 miles from The Gauntlet. Actually Mirror Lake, which is less than 5 miles from the cache, has a number of small group campsites (20 people max) that are also available for the weekend... this may be a good alternative if more than a handful of people want to camp.

So how many people want to find or refind The Gauntlet on the 22nd and camp Fri or Sat night?

Yeah yeah... rub it in Jeremy Image One thing I find myself doing, is placing myself in situations that I am not comfortable with so that I may over come then. Soooooo....that's why I am taking on this one AGAIN. I know what I did wrong the first time and can change my plan and mid set.

So there Image Image Image sew buttons on your underwear!!

I have to work the Friday before, but would love to camp out where ever everyone else is. I guess I could come down AFTER words, but I think that puts me down there about 2230. As long as there are no objections to me pitching a tent at that hour. LOL I know... I'll send digital Dan down with my tent ahead of time and HE can pitch it for me. Right BUDDY???

OK, camping is out for me. I couldn't get out there until about 2am...If anyone is interested in carpooling from Oconomowoc we could meet at "Another park and ride hide" (GCQ1TQ) right off of I94 (or at my home about 2 miles away for more secure parking).
My plan is to head out very early and hit one or two caches on the way to the Gauntlet, then get the Gauntlet done and head back home after about a half hour or so of high fives.
