Stoughton area geocoin Bermuda triangle?

this is just an observation that i had awhile back and thought i would share. we went looking for a geocoin back in june afew days after the owner dropped it off but it was already gone (TBJMWM), we just figured someone got there before us. so on to next cache to try for another coin a few miles away.... (TBJNFQ) again the coin was missing.
now i look in the stoughton area and looks like another one may have wandered off. (TBMA2E)
we now have found a few geocoins elsewhere so we are not trying so hard to find one, but seems strange that so many would go missing in one area.

If people are keeping these things, you gotta wonder, "why??" They probably just have them stuffed in a shoe box in the closet or in a beer mug on the shelf. Something tells me that THOSE who keep TB's and coins are just casual cachers, keep them because they think THAT's what they are suppose to do... a gift. I bet they don't even know anything about statewide caching associations like the WGA that would give them insight on their wrong-doings.

With the recent tornado that ripped Stoughton apart I would be surprised if any coins or bugs are left at that bug hotel at all.

On a different note, I have noticed that coins and bugs tend to go missing...and since coins are being collected by some people (Most collectors will purchase their own)...there are people that decide to take coins that don't belong to them to keep. That is an unfortunate truth.

Like other things, it is always good to ask if you have any doubts. Last year when I found a particularly challenging (terrain) cache (GCD) near Seattle, I found a really cool geocoin in it. The coin's owner had her own logging scheme. When I logged it on her page, I noticed that it sounded like others had kept the coins they found so I emailed her and asked. She had been giving me hints and encouragement while I made several attempts at GCD and it turns out she went up there the morning of the day I finally got there knowing I was going and put the coin in it for me as a special reward for making it. That made that cache even more special and I cherish the coin, which she indicated was mine to keep or pass along as I saw fit, as a reminder of the cache.

Wow! That's nice!

I've sent out 2 geocoins. Both were accompanied by a tag that screamed in big red letters "DO NOT KEEP THIS COIN. Please move it from cache to cache." If anybody winds up keeping it, they're thieves and they can't claim they didn't know.

As per Stoughton: I've placed one bug - not a geocoin - there that disappeared, but that has happened occasionally other places too.

I do not bother with bugs nor coins, so none of this disappearing stuff bothers me, one way or another.

Understanding that some cachers enjoy putting out and moving bugs around, I wonder how long before they quit in frustration over it all?

Well, at least 'they' - who ever they be - do not take caches as frequently as bugs and coins. If they did, caching would die a very quick death!
