High Falls Drawdown...

We were just camping up north near Crivitz and heard a bunch of info about a drawdown on High Falls flowage. They're dropping the lake down 12 feet to work on the 100 year old dam. The locals are excited because there are thousands of snagged fishing lures out there for the taking!

Probably a few boat motors too.

Anway... while it's not exactly geocaching related, it is pretty neat. In addition, there is a cache on an island out there that may now be accessible by foot this fall. The lake will be filled again by mid January...

If you do head up there... BE CAREFUL!

Great place! I camped and cached there during my July vacation. It's on my list of places to go back to for another round.

My Dad and I camped near the three falls in the American Legion Park on the Thunder River which is near High Falls of the Pestigo River. Beautiful country. We caught a lot of trout back in the 1940's. Use to have a mess for breakfast in the morning. Went back up a couple of years for ole time sake. Good place for a cache in the Legion Park.

Have to see if this will be done by my event Sept 23. Take a drive over and see what's hapenining.

Sounds pretty cool. I've ATV'd the flowage on the ice. I bet they'll find some neat stuff on the bottom.

The Willow Flowage is near my cabin. It's extremely low this year and was last fall as well. Last year while walking the shores on a hunting trip, I found all sorts of fishing jigs, an Ice spud and thousands of fish beds that were now about 100' from the water

Was in Crivitz this past weekend for our event. It was a rather erie site to see just how low the water is. With no one else around it was as if the world ended and I was in this abandoned place. Would be rather interesting to walk down with a metal detector and see what's stuck in the mud.

If you ahve been in the area in the past, visit again soon. It's quite an unusual site to see.

We also cached around the Flowage last weekend at Fu's and Dan's event. We bumped into a State Trooper and Park Ranger and talked about the drawdown. We were told that the mud flats around the edges were at least knee deep, if not more, and were advised not to try walking out. We also told them about GeoCaching, and invited them to go with us for the next cache, but they declined. In fact, they seemed to think we were kinda nuts!

I was up in the area this weekend doing a bit of hunting. I stopped by the lake as it is a favorite ice fishing spot of mine. What a neat experience. In the places I was, I was able to walk out quite a distance. However, I could see where certain areas could be dangerous. (Use common sense...)

Was not ADVISING anyone to go out there, but it sure would be interesting to see what's stuck out there. Some areas at Twin Bridges, it's dried and looks like a number of people have been down there. One step on soft stuff for me and I'd go running in the other direction!! Another Phobia for me...... MUCK!!!
