When I went to sign up way back in 2000 (user #41!), I was surprised to find the 'handle' I wanted, Jeremy, was already taken. Later I would learn why it was already in use.

What are the odds?

I've considered changing my handle to something more creative (and more memorable and easier to spell) a couple times, but never went through with it...

Two years ago, we had just returned home from our annual trip to northern Minnesota, aka, heaven. After unpacking and sorting thru the mail, I sat down with the August 2003 issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine. I read an article about ways to stay active as a family, and in that article they described geocaching. I thought it sounded like tons of fun, and a perfect way to get the whole family up and about. I went out the next day and bought a GPSr.

When we went to register on geocaching.com, we thought for awhile.... But since we'd just returned from our vacation where we spent the week fishing, well.... fishing was on our mind. And to make a play on words, we became *fishcachers* (fish catchers).

And since we don't cache as a family all the time, I've become Mama Fishcacher, and we have Papa Fishcacher, and Little Fishcacher. Mostly, it's just me geocaching anymore and the others only come along when I beg them.

I've considered changing my handle at gc.com to reflect this, but have decided it's more trouble than it's worth, lol.

We're avid canoeists and are die-hard fans of the Boundary Waters. We both majored in history in undergrad and we're both teachers. We love the sense of the past that canoeing gives us and we are able to use some of our adventures in our curriculums.

Oh yeah, we also live in Green Bay!

I a made up the name zuma on the spur of the moment, not thinking at the time that the user name would stick. I was listening to Neil Young's record "Zuma" when the website prompted me to create a user name. At first, I used zuma4now, with the intention of changing it to something better if I stuck with it. There is already a zuma registered at gc.com, so I just added an "!" to make the computer take it.

I believe that Neil Young got the name Zuma, from a beach in California near where he recorded the album. So I am keeping the zuma moniker as a reference to Neil Young and as a reminder of a goal to find a cache on Zuma Beach.

As an avid bird hunter, I was doing some internet searches and came across a website called "pheasant tales". It was a pheasant hunting guide's website. I thought it was a fun play on words.

At the time I was doing some guiding with my dog and was looking for a name for my guide service. I figured I would go with GrouseTales. No, it's not spelled wrong. Many people mis spell the tales as "tails". It's supposed to be "Tales", as in stories about Grouse.

When geocaching came around, I just grabbed the name off my business card... GrouseTales!

My geo-dad named me my original handle "investigator0711." Well actually he gave me the investigator part and since it was taken I added my birthday. Then, after a month of caching and enjoyment of blazing new trails by bushwhacking, I changed it to Bushwhacking Queen (after someone called me it first).

As for my nicknames BQ, Queenie, and B. Queen: Uncle_Fun first called me BQ outloud at his event; Energysaver first called me Queenie; and B. Queen was a combination of hand cramping when writing it and lack of space on logs.

Thought we shared this some time back on another thread.... but here it goes again. We had a couple weeks between when we heard about geocaching from Snowgoose Two and when our GPSr arrived. We decided to do a little brain storming and came up with several ideas. We pulled the Timberline from the model of our bikes that we use to ride 1000 miles a season... that was before caching. We also thought it fit since we live up north surrounded by timber. The Echoes come back from our dating days... a little endearment term we used.

We work with a couple of youth camps during the summer. A long time ago, a dad asked his little girl in jest if she was sitting on Grandpa's lap at a campfire. From there, the nicknames stuck, and grew. When we learned about GeoCaching through these same camps, our handle was a natural. Since, we've showed dozens of kids how to cache hunt, and our 'grandkids' enjoy this activity with us.

We look forward to the day our own two grown kids marry and give us real grandchildren.

Wow, I supose the odds are a simple 1 in 365 that someone in the WGA would share my birthday. Actually with our membership numbers there should be someone else as well. Glad to find another member of the 7-11 club!

We were at a geoevent early in our career, and I remember gorging on the good eats. We had been logging our finds under first initial-lastname like so many of our predacessors. That's why I didn't understand the comment at the next table.. That's Trudy & the beast. I guess I didn't mind the new handle. Trudy & I talked it over and decided to go with it. Then one of the cachers offered me a handfull of napkins and I thanked him for the new monicer. As I wiped my Chin, he confided that he had said: "that's truly a beast."

A possibly interesting side note (or maybe not) ... this past April I hosted an event with Tami of EcoRangers (I like to cap the R), so prior to that a lot of emails were flying back and forth and a lot of event discussions at my family's including "EcoRangers said this, EcoRangers said that" stuff ... since "EnergySaver" and "EcoRangers" are slightly similar, we found ourselves confusing the too ... during that time we caught ourselves twice almost signing logbooks as "EcoRangers"!
