You want a great time!!??!! Add 2 sports together. I am just back from a morning of XC skiing with GizFinder and Marc_54140 as I showed them around the Woodland Dunes area and some of the caches I have out there. We got a great workout and those 2 got in 5 of the 7 caches. We then took the truck and did a few other caches aroud the area.

Does anyone else have an area to XC ski and do a few caches at the same time? Would love to hear about them.

Thanks you two, for a great morning of fun and laughs.... and eats! Image

A couple of ours are placed just off of ski trails. One in the Nicolet National Forest and one in Vilas county forest.

Our 'Jones Springs Cache' (GCK3GQ) in the Lakewood / Townsend area of Oconto County is in a great cross country skiing area. While not all of the 11 miles of looped hiking trails are groomed for skiing, most are.

This 4-step multi-cache has logbooks at each step, each of which may be logged as a find.

If you are a skier, give it a try!

There is a cache placed on the Rib Mountain Ski Resort or Granite peak, one of the states best ski hills. But your going to have to do the first 2 caches of this multi cache before you can ski and find #3 Image . Best of luck....

Interesting you brought this up ... as the idea came up at dinner last night.

Would love to know what caches in my area are good picks for skiing to. I'm guessing the West Bend / Kewaskum area would be my best bet ... so you cache owners in that area, speak up.

A review of caches I own (northern Ozaukee County), would suggest these:

"Shadows of Stonehaven - Krueger Kage" (GCN6MK) - this would take you along the state park's ski trails, with the final being off the groomed trail but still excessible.

"Laughing Lion" (GCMGP2) - this county park has just been developed in the past year and seems to be getting a fair amount of skiers, you can ski to within about 15' of the cache, then much more park to explore via skis.

"Star Light Star Bright" (GCQEF8) - while this is not an official skiing area, I believe it would be very doable, except the final would require dropping the skis.

Any of the caches in the IL/Lake County forest preserves are ski friendly. You'll have to drop your skis to bushwack the final distance, but usually it's not too far in. Old Schoolhouse forest preserve in Libertyville is especially good for this. PQ

This cache ( http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=43caa598-71f0-4d8f-bef6-28d0138b9ba5 ) is now archived, but it's in a very nice x-c ski area -- the Zillmer Trails in Northern Kettle Moraine.

I skied all over Lapham Peak Park on Sunday. There are a few caches there that could be had while skiing, but I didn't look that day. The snow was just too good.

I have one called "The Trails Gone Cold" that is in the Nordic ski trails in the Southern Kettle Moraine. See it here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=933164f9-6b6d-4ace-a185-a03884cad245
Do a search of the two nearest caches and you'll find there are two others back in on those same ski trails. I know mine is pretty tough to find with any amount of snow cover. The other two, I'm not sure.

During the winter months, the four caches in Bubolz Nature Preserve, in Appleton, are accessible by cross country skiing. The trails are groomed.

Otherwise, Professor et al, they are accessible by trail. No cross country bushwacking required.
