We live in Chippewa Falls, and mainly find caches in these areas. We have been using the Geocaching.com site to find caches to hunt. I have recently found that a lot of the listings that have descriptions (mostly historical or area references) are severely innacurate. I also know that it took a lot of work to plan and place these caches, as well as to maintain them. We pick caches based on historical relevance of the area. I don't want to seem like a hag, but would it be appropriate etiquette to approach the people who placed the caches and let them know about the historical innacuracies? I certainly don't want to step on anyone's toes, but the historical facts are important to me.

I'm also from the Chippewa area. I know that I wouldn't mind hearing about corrections on my caches. I would guess that most people wouldn't mind corrections like that, as long as it was politely done.

I agree. If something were historically inaccurate on one of my cache pages, I would want to know about it.....tactfully of course. If I saw an egregious error on a page, I would probably not bring it up while logging the find, but perhaps send a seperate e-mail to the cache owner to point out the error.

I also agree. I certainly would not be offended if a mistake was pointed out to me.

Some of us will mention if a site is of historical significance to increase a cache's appeal to get people to come find it. However, most of us are not true historians and may not do the actual research to check for accuracy. Also, if I was particularly busy, I might not update the cache listing immediately unless I knew the e-mail contained accurate information.

I personally know very little about the history of northwestern Wisconsin despite living here for over 15 years. Embarassed

Hi, and welcome again.

I agree with the other posters here. If ya spot something that is not quite accureate, by all means let the cache owner know. I know that I have several historical caches in the area, and to the best of my knowledge, they are correct. But if you know of any errors, let me know.

Also, if ya like history, ya might want to check out my Yellowstone Trail series of caches, that runs from Kenosha to Hudson, all across the state. There is one in Chippewa at the natural spring, and one is in Lake Hallie. The info on the Lake Hallie stop on the Yellowstone Trail is interesting, and accurate, but I had to move the cache quite aways from the route of the actual Yellowstone Trail, and away from the route of the electric streetcars that ran between Chippewa and Eau Claire, mostly because there is a rail line there now, and very little public land.

Again welcome, and if ya see any errors in any of my caches, by all means let me know.

zuma

Concur. I don't think any of us mind correction. We all want accuracy in what we put out there. ALthough, I would rather corrections to me be via PM or email!!! Smile
