Here is a challenge; I need some ideas on a worthy cache to do for my 4000 cache find. There are some requirements;
1) I don’t want to here manmade sounds
2) Needs to have a view, five, ten miles or more, but a good view of a lake, bog, falls or marsh will also do.
3) A hike, longer the better
4) A traditional or multi, regular size cache.

Is there a cache or two like this within a reasonable distance of southern Wisconsin? Upper Michigan is reasonable. Bring it on.[/list]

You just described one of my caches "An Eagle's View" GCQ2A9

It's in Northern Minnesota though

We can think of many worth the trip up here, especially in the U.P. Let us know if you really want to come this far.

I will be up nort the first full week in Aug., Armstrong Cr. Area. 100 miles this way or that way don't matter.

Hemlock Draw is very nice, I got some great pic. from doing that cache.

Minn. may not be to far for a great cache, as it looks like it is.

Like I said to you at the event today, the real challenge is finding one you haven't already done. So you need to add that as #5 on your list: A cache I haven't already found. Very Happy

We did this one for our thousandth. It was a five hour drive each way for us and we thought it was worth it.

Personally, I recomend Match Head or Be Like Rogheff: Where There's a Will There's a Wave. Of course I'm a little Bias, but I have many many cachers use them as thier Milestone.

We really liked the Million Marbles cache. This cache will take you on an approx .4 mile hike along the south side of a large ravine. On the way back you will get a very nice overlook view of Torch Lake which would meet your overlook requirement. Once you get back near the cache, there are several waterfalls with (I would have to guess) at least a 100 foot drop. There is another cache in the same area Hungaria

I have not been there in the summer, only in the spring, but the falls were absolutely amazing at that time of year. There are trails on both sides of the ravine, but we only walked the south side. The north trail is an easier hike from what I understand, and we did see a few other people out there.

There are several pictures on each cache page to help you decide if this cache would meet your criteria. Good luck finding your milestone cache!

As long as you asked Alan, may we suggest one of our favorite's, Hawksbill Crag (GC3630). It has views that don't end, and the best is if you can get someone to catch your picture out on the crag (see pictures on the website). Maybe a bit farther than you want to drive, but definitely well worth it. We'll be back in the area for Thanksgiving Day this fall, and would be glad to revisit the cache with you...#4000 or beyond!! Hope you enjoy your hunt where ever!!

hey natloh! I just did HOT TROT's "KVR - HILO" yesterday with trekkin and birdin and that one fits pretty well into your criteria. the hike was about 7 miles, the views were incredible and I never heard a sound the whole day that wasnt nature made. the final was a regular and the WPTs all vary in sizes and hides. I highly recommend this cache to everyone as a milestone!

I echo timberline echo's, go to eagle river. there are a number up there that are worth the effort. Even my gravity challenged body made the trip.

I even have one up there thats a heck of a view (IMHO of course) but not a walk GC144Y1.

Lets see.. Speaking Softly is a easy to do multi that ends in .5 mi(one way) walk to a big container. Incredible view and walk around a un-inhabited lake. There's also another cache around the other side of the lake that if you walk the whole thing I think its well over a mile. Dummy me didnt have the other one on my gps the day I did SS.

The only sounds I heard that day was the wind(pretty high that day from a storm to the south) and the animals. Check it out GCJQ89, I did this as my 500th cache and it was completely worth it.

Highly recommend that one, hits all of your requirements I believe.
