The perfect storm as I understand it is when alot of unrelated factors all come together to make an unbelievable natural occurrence. Well, something like that happened to me Monday while I was out caching. Except, this didn't happened over the Atlantic Ocean, it happened over something alot more meaningful to me. I carry my house keys in my front pocket as well as my AA batteries when I'm caching. Well, I'm not an electrician, but things lined up in a certain way and heat started being generated. I was like "Oh my!" I've had that happen before, but I thought it was a Reddevil_35 thing. Very Happy Anyone ever had a similar experience?

Well Close!!!!

I have my amateur radio liscense, so alot of time I have a handheld radio with me.

Well, Back in Highschool, I couldn't have a radio in school, as they swore I was a gang member, and using it to traffic drugs. Well Not the case. Well anyway, on the back of the battery pack of the radio there are three contacts. a Positive, a Negative, and a Sense Line for the charger. Well I had this in my backpack, and the Positive and Negative contacted the metal spiral on my Notebook, and it got red hot, and burned a bunch of pieces of paper!!!!!

There was smoke, and Smell!!!!!!

From then On, I had to put my radio in an old Wool Sock!!!!! That way it wouldn't short out!

Justin

Had to bring up the RedDevil_35 thing. I guess we might have to get zuma started again.

Just kidding Guy!!!

See ya at the Event Sunday...

back in the day, I was working at b'gosh corporate and got a call from a contractor working at the plant down in tennesee (yes, they used to make things in america).

They were updating some network cards with some new chips..well apparently they were keyed but able to slide in backwards...

He caught his mistake after it glowed really bright orange/red and started to melt..

It was so many years ago that I forget the incident and how bad the burn was, but anyway it is now force of habit. I think it's called one shot learning. Before I put any battery in my pocket I move all metal to the other pocket. A few years ago I bought a plastic carrier that holds 4 AA batteries. Problem solved. You have to be careful. Some types of batteries can put out a lot of current. I couldn't find it at the moment but there is a video of a laptop exploding while the guy was using it. People also have major burns from cell phones. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmPm-YV9vdA

I've also done the .9 volt battery deal. Makes the coins quite hot, and smells a bit too.

Yup... 2 AA's and a pocket full of change...

The amazing thing is that with 2 batteries, they had to line up to make some sort of a circuit to get the coins hot. Wierd.
