Hello,

I'm trying to set up a small cache event for Boy Scout Troop 24 in Hartland, WI and some Webelos who will be joining the troop soon. We picked Saturday 3/1/08 as the event date. Since we're located in Hartland, I'm thinking of using the Arrowhead campus and recycling GCG2YB (Draw Your Own Conclusion by Team Flushingrouse) and adding a few more, maybe a micro, a virtual of some sort and something else.

We'll probably have about 20-25 boys participating so I'm thinking 4-5 caches will keep them out of each others' hair and give them reasonable size teams to work with. If we need to get them some exercise, we may include "100 years ago", "my 1st cache" and/or "Sunshine over the bridge" nearby.

Unfortunately, I've only got one GPS. Is there anyone who is willing to either lend a Garmin to the cause that day and/or come to help with the event?

At this time I'm thinking of setting the temps out on the Arrowhead campus in the early morning and having the scouts meet to learn about caching for a half hour or so then head out to find them.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you could help by participating or lending a GPS.

Thanks, Steve Karolek of Cardinal Cachers (and Committee Chair of Troop 24)

Thanks, the offer is appreciated! I'll send contact info via email and we'll see what we can work out. I have two, plan on borrowing my brothers and bought a low-end etrex on eBay yesterday. Depending upon how many scouts sign up, I may or may not want a 5th. Will let you know next week Tuesday or Wednesday.

Djwini, THANK YOU so much for the use of your GPSr. We had 12 boys show up, along with a few parents and split them into two teams. We gave each team an overall map with all of the caches and interim waypoints marked, a printed cache sheet for each of the four geocaches and two GPSs.

Neither Centennial park nor the toward Hartbrook park had been cleared at all so they were difficult. In fact, none of our teams found either cache. I used a clear film canister for the micro in the AHS tennis court area which also proved very difficult but was findable when we forced the teams to keep digging Wink The final for "draw your own conclusion" was an ammo can I had put out this morning, chock full of goodies so each scout got a handful. Interesting stuff like waterproof match cases, whistles, emergency blankets, hacky sacks, match box cars, mini frisbees, decks of cards, etc. Everyone, scouts and parents had a blast - possibly the funniest part was when I almost couldn't get out of a hip-deep snow drift - and really really appreciate the use of your GPS.

I'll plan on swinging by with it tomorrow!

Thanks again, S.Karolek (1/4 of Cardinal Cachers)
