I've been in the sport for almost a year and have placed a few caches that I have asked other to co-own, for various reasons. Could be that a cache I placed it far enough away that having a co-owner close-by to monitor it or it could be that the particulars of the cache, maybe it's a tribute, warrent a co-owner.

Here's the problem that co-owners run into. Say you are a co-owner of a cool cache that you were asked to be part of putting together and you know what it is and where it is and may have even been the one to put it in the field.

Once published, if you log it, you not only look silly but you also feel a bit like you are cheating - at least that's how some will see it if they are particular about the numbers.

If you ignore it with the convenient "Ignore It" function, then you can't put it on you watch list to monitor the logs which you won't get to automatically see since you are not the "official owner" of the cache.

I think most cache co-owners want to read the logs and get notifications when a cache they co-own is found. That's the point of co-owning a cache after all.

Presently, you only have 2 options. You either live with your co-owned cache coming up on your search queries by not logging them as "found". Or, you log them as found, even though you may have been the one that actually placed the cache. This is the approach that some have taken with caches of mine that they co-own. Certainly acceptable, but they didn't really find it did they.

It seems to me that there needs to be an additional feature that would allow co-owners to ignore listings yet monitor them at the same time.

Sounds complicated.

Hi SS,

It is possible to both ignore and watch a cache. I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but it is possible, and I have a couple of caches that I both ignore (for the sake of pq's) and watch (for the sake of interest).

Just go to the cache page in question, and add the cache to your watchlist, and then add it to your ignore list. That way they do not show up when I run a PQ, but when someone logs the cache, I get an email of their log.

And, if you have already ignored it, the Ignore list is not just conceptual. It is an actual bookmark list on your account. Look at your bookmark lists and you will find one called Ignore list. You can open it up and look at the caches on it, watch them, remove them from the list, etc.

The non-owner-co-owner could "Beta Test" the cache. Since they were present for the placement, tested the coords, co-own it, etc. they should be allowed to log the "find". Otherwise it's a cache that continues to show as "unfound" for them...which technically is not really true.

Here's just one example of logging a cache as Beta Tested: GCZA7Y

As always proceed with your best judgement and with what your conscious can handle when logging a find... wink
