I've known about geocaching since a friend of mine started back in 2000-2001, but just FINALLY justified buying my own GPS unit and recieved it a couple weeks ago... our family is hooked now too!

Been out the last couple Saturdays (the only two since we got the GPS) and having lots of family fun.

Just joined WGA a few minutes ago and wanted to say Hi!

From the Members List, it looks like thatcomputerguy is from our neck of the woods...central Wisconsin. Almond is within reach of lots of great caches!

Welcome aboard!

Thanks for the welcome!

Yep, we're in the Almond area... and have 14 of them under our belts already... fun stuff!

We also own a business in Stevens Point, and I was the Parks Supervisor for Waupaca County Parks for 7 years as well. I've gotten to know central WI pretty well over the years, but already seeing a bunch of stuff we didn't know existed..

Hope to meet some of you out there at some point!

Regards,
Dusty

Zuma,

Noticed you're in Eau Claire... I'm sure you heard about the UW EC Softball team this year.. Wink I've got a connection there.... Smile

Also, because of that connection, we get to Eau Claire every so often and want to introduce our kids grandparents to caching... (my parents). So, if you don't mind, I might hit you up for some comments on some fun yet relatively easy terrain spots to hit there... Smile

I see there a bunch of them from searching geocaching.com, but some first hand experience is always kind of nice to hear from.

Regards,
Dusty

Great to hear that you have a connection to EC. Here are a couple of suggestions:

1. Look at my bookmark list of Top Ten in EC County. Not all meet your criteria, but they are all caches that I enjoyed.

http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.aspx?guid=1d2e52cf-d9e7-4452-8b2b-c859b9d1fd08

2. There are several caches along the Chippewa River Trail, both in town, and going out of town. You can start at GCTMZK and go in either direction.

3. Kids like big ammo boxes, and older folks like a nice walk in the woods in a scenic area. Best combination of that, is all of the caches in Lowes Creek Park, about 3 miles south of town, and would be a great introduction to caching and fun for the kids. There are about 20 caches in the park, and most are ammo boxes. The closest to parking is GCW7KD, so download a PQ of the 20 nearest, and have a nice walk in a great place.

I heartily recommend the Lowes Creek caches. LMcGisme was visiting here last week and we went there and had a great time. If you want to avoid the hills, stay to the west of the creek. Do bring bug spray and don't bushwhack through the tall grass and pine forests. We had *lots* of ticks on us after doing that.
