Stay tuned all my caching friends.
A giant extravaganza of fall colors and new caches may be just over the horizon. It appears that Bjornson's favorite geocaching teacher may be on the verge of announcing just such an event for October 11th. If the school district puts it's blessing on this one it will be a bunch of new permanent caches including up to four earth caches. Some very creative temporary hides are also in the mix as is a potluck lunch and giant bonfire.
Stay tuned as "official" word is only hours away. |

Does that mean the existing caches will be deactivated soon?
I made one trip there about 18 months ago and had a great time! I would love to go again. I see there are lots of new caches now available. If they are going to be deactivated, I will try to get down there before the event.
Unfortunately, my kids have 10/10 off from school. We are probably making a mini-vacation to Madeline Island for that long weekend so we will be unable to attend that weekend. |

We do want to get all the new ones up in Bjornson, but that same weekend is the LaCrosse event. I think they are really trying to do a better job with that this year and we hope to support it by playing here.
Have fun hiking those hills up there! |

Wow, 2 great events to choose from on the weekend Robin and I return from Vegas. I love Bjornson, and am looking forward to getting out there again.
And I do hope the La Crosse event comes off better this year. Have they contacted some experienced cachers to help? It is possible for a tourism department to do a great job--just look at what West Bend and Rusk County did, but the key is getting involvement from local knowledgable cachers.

From what I can discern, the LaCrosse event is being run without "experienced" help. I have been getting quite a few questions from the person running the event which indicated to me that they didn't fully understand the process. That said, they are planning on making nearly all the caches permanents. I just hope someone is maintaining them after the event. |

Dave,
They have some area cachers placing the caches. We have not been asked. Someone else who is placing some of them contacted us over the weekend, but we don't want to just throw something out there. We try to put a bit of thought into all of ours. As we understand it, they are providing all the goods and the cachers are placing them.
That said, we've been planning a night cache, and if we can pull it all together, we'll let them know that's one that can be added. I think the folks who are the main players are really occasional cachers. They did listen to last year's feedback and are trying to get lots of new permanent caches in the area for the event, so we want to support that effort...and find some of them! |

Event for Bjornson IS A GO.
The cache page awaits approval and publication.
There will be approximately 30 new permanent caches available for the event with 12-15 creative temps.
(Most of the caches you found last year have, or will be archived and replaced with new hides.)
This event will be put on and run by seasoned, old cachers. Just look at DB, he's old!

Bjornson fall colors - social event is taking shape.
See gc.com waypoint: GC1GBEP
I hope to see lots of old friends and make some new ones as well. This should be a fun and colorful event.
