Anyone interested in an event near New Auburn?

I want to host an event in August and was thinking about the Round Lake picnic area or the Morris-Erickson park (both are Chippewa County parks) northwest of New Auburn. I was also thinking August 2 would be good to avoid some bigger events later in August. This would be mostly a meet and greet type of event with some geocaching games, but I'm not planning on hiding temps. There are some great permanent caches in the Ice Age Trail area nearby that people could find, using the event shelter as the social gathering point. Everyone could bring their own food to cook on the grill and a "dish to pass" as is done at the WGA picnic and other events I've attended.

Any interest?

Absolutely! Jen and I would definitely welcome a picnic type event. Those 2 locations are relatively close to our home so if there is anything we could do to help out, feel free to contact us. Hope it comes together!

I saw the post in the announcments thread. I would love to attend. However, if I cannot convince my wife that this is a valuable family activity, Rolling Eyes

we may not be able to attend. I'm just hoping to be able to convince my wife to let me do some caching to go over the 1000 milestone during our trip to New England starting next week.

Hiking at the Ice Age Center is a great family activity. I hiked there with my daughter even before there were geocaches on the trails. You could join us at Round Lake for your lunchtime picnic and hike the Ice Age trails. There is an interpretive trail and lots of very interesting stuff inside the Ice Age Center (snakes, even). There is a beach at the Round Lake park (although I don't know how green it will be in August.)

It just so happens that there are a few caches around the Ice Age Center, and one currently at Round Lake, but that doesn't have to be the focus of your activity.

. Do you have the coords to the park? I can't seem to locate it on the Delorme.

Here is the link to the Ice Age Center that bnb mentioned. As she said, it is a great spot for kids with all the hands on exhibits and great interpretative center. The trails are great, and there are a number of excellent caches there for adults.

The only cache there now is GCQJAA, though there are several great caches nearby. I do plan on planting a number of new caches prior to the event, in the park.

Sorry I missed the fun there. I had to let my partner leave our service area (which meant I had to stay local) after I had been gone for two consecutive weekends.

After reading all the logs from the event I am SOOOO jealous we weren't able to come! Sounds like it was a really fun event and a great start to the regional events.

The transmission went out in our car at 10pm Fri night in the thriving metropolis of Ewen, Michigan so I was really, really, really, really wishing we had been able to stay home this weekend for the event! The wedding was nice, but getting stranded really S*cked Sad

Wish we were there.

Hi Jenhen,

Yep, it was a delightful event. I am a bit weird, I guess, but I have developed a fondness for the smaller events where you get to sit and talk to a small group of 20 or so caching friends. To me that is so much more rewarding than the 200+ events where everyone is out chasing numbers.

I am hopeful that we can do it again and that you can make it.
