America: the only country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, and mentally ill without treatment - yet we have a benefit for the people of Haiti on 12 TV stations. I think maybe we should think about taking care of our own first

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Well said vtwinspin. It is great to help others but I agree we need to take care of our own first.

I wish we did't have too but I agree!

Perhaps if our elected officials someday learn to work together, instead of playing politics to protect their phony-baloney jobs, some of those issues might start to be solved. However, it would be unthinkable to turn our backs on the victims of a massive disaster like the one in Haiti simply because we have unsolved problems here.

IMHO, If you want to see true bi-partisanship, elect a truely independant President.

How many stations carried the benefits and fund raisers for New Orleans? I don't remember it being on so many staions, but my memory could be wrong.

That's a thought. IMHO, partisan political junk from both parties has ground the effectiveness of our government to a halt. Mad

Funny, I thought the whole world was our own. I wonder when the rest of the world will wake up and see that we're all one big family on this planet, and start working for a better world, not a better country/state/city/neighborhood/self.

I actually sent a email to Fox 11 about this subject Last week.

I just think its a joke that someone will send $$$ to a foreign country, and not help a starving neighbor, or their local food pantry, and don't forget about our 4 legged friends at your local shelter.

Keep the money local, screw the other countries.

this is just my opinion

Compassion should not know boundaries. I have no doubt that those who have found it in their hearts to help the people of Haiti have also found it in their hearts to help those in their backyards.

The partisan bickering we could all do without, but disaster of this scale goes beyond any of that. As does the plight of the homeless, the hungry and others who suffer in our backyards. I see them at my school every day. People have reached into their own pockets to help those families when the need is identified.

My opinion.
