Starting a cache for the first time.

I just discovered this sport and it is a lot of fun. Finally something my wife and I can do together, even if she doesn't like flies, mosquitos and mud! She acts as the brains and I get dirty!

Anyway, we are looking to start our first cache. Any helpful tips anyone has for single as we as multiple caches? How hard is too hard for travel to the cache, and how is this rated. How far are people willing to travel between caches in a multiple? I would like to set up one that requires a bit of travel, and some simpler ones that kids can get to. Thanks for any help!
