We can finally let the cat out of the bag! We are very happy to announce that Wisconsin became the third state to set the GEOCAC benchmark.
GEOCAC is the official agency code for Geocachers who report their benchmark recoveries to the National Geodetic Survey.
GEO*Trailblazer 1 has created a project to have a commemorative mark like this one set in each state of the union, and to get them included into the NGS database. Being dedicated benchmark hunters (and geocachers), we took up the project for Wisconsin.
We have been working with our State Surveyor, our County Survey Coordinator and several others for the better part of this year to make this project a reality. Yesterday, the mark was set and will be officially surveyed to be included into the NGS database in Spring 2009. Unfortunately, the Geocaching.com database is static, and (so it seems) no new marks will be added, therefore a geocache is needed to show everyone the location of the mark.
We have just submitted the cache listing that will bring cachers to this newly placed piece of geocaching/benchmarking history.

Just got the cache published for the GEOCAC mark: GC1JFKM
I hope this works. I'm still trying to figure out the direct link. |

Great job!! Why did it have to be published on Monday? Why is it not a snow day today so I can go get it?
Thanks for your work. |

Being the gentleman that I am, I allowed Da Wife to hunt for this one whilst she was running errands in the Big City and whilst I toiled away in the home office here in the Boonies (which has seceded from Camelot). She reports she is still picking juniper debris out of her hair and drying out various items of clothing. In other words, a great caching experience.
It is evident lots of work went into getting this cache put together and published. |
