Would it be possiable to Re-do the vote on the WGA logo?
There seems to be a lot of opinions on the new logo. |

I vote No. If we start with a re-vote on this decision, it sets a precedent for re-voting on all future decisions that'll be made that people do not agree with. (yeah, it WILL happen). Businesses and organizations cannot be conducted in that fashion. I hope the WGA decides not to go down the path you are asking. |

But IT"S NOT the logo that was voted for and similarity issue was not brought forth and the whole of WGA members did not cast a vote. This issue is not going to go away. And the presidential election is a lot bigger than this stupid vote.
AND why wasn't the old current logo not an option or choice in the first round of voting? |

As I see it, the first round was to find the best contenders if the logo is to be changed. The second round was to see if the best contenders were actually preferred over the current logo. At that point, we the members, left the final decision up to the BOD.
The issue of similarity to the WA logo was brought up when the first version of the new logo was introduced. We have heard no comments about similarities of other states logos to one another, and there are a few of those. This change has been in the works since I was on the BOD, I do not think it needs to be debated any longer. We put the power to make a choice in the hands of the BOD, they have acted in an honorable manner, their selection is bold and fresh and I believe we should accept it w/o any further P&M. As I see it, the matter is finished! |

After thinking about the similarity point, I have to wonder: Is it a bad thing that State goecaching organization logo's look alike? They are in fact similar organizations with similar goals. They are hobby organizations not corporate businesses. However, we could have done something to set it apart from the one it is similar to. We could have also done something to make the logo identify who we are.
What I think would have set this design apart from the one it is similar to would have been if we would have maintained the GPS and ammo box somehow that was on our prior logo to carry forward a bit of the feel of it. At a minimum, the GPS which is a major part of our hobby. Placement could have been almost right where it was on the old logo. Pick a spruced up new design for a GPSR that doen't look "dated". I am by no means an artist. However, I have worked on a logo project before in the corporate world and I think an artist could have worked on keeping the feel of the old logo, at least in part with the identity. That was probably not what was asked for because "the masses voted". However, we did not ask for a Brown Wisconsin either (as pointed out by mr cheezehead I believe). Throwing a GPSr into the logo with the same lettering style and map style as what was passed in voting would probably would have only upset a handful of people who voted for this particular logo. It would have still kept the feel of the voted for logo AND kept part of our identity.
I do agree with one thing s|s commented on, that as part of this change, we have lost a bit of the identity of the group with this new logo -- specifically, nothing Geocaching related at all is reflected in the new logo. Take away the wording under the letters WGA and you just leave people guessing what the G stands for. Golfers, Gardening, Geography, Gamers, Garage sale, Guppy, Gluestick... sorry got carried away.
I am going to double post this comment as there are multiple threads now.. |

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the question. Ray already answered it, so I will just note that Ray's answer is correct. As Ray said, the first round was to find the best contenders if the logo was to be changed. The second round was to see if the best contenders were preferred over the existing logo, and if so, which proposal was most preferred.
That was written into the process so as to give the existing (old) logo an advantage in the voting process. We did not want to make a change unless the majority of members really wanted a change.

I voted for John McCain and respect the final outcome of the election. However, I have decided to write my Congressman and request that the Presidential Election be reheld and I will cross my fingers for a different outcome. Maybe this will set the precedent for reholding any elections that we're not happy with the results of.
BTW, I voted to keep the old logo. |
