I'm looking for software that allows for downloading tracks and placing them over aerial photos. Also, after a really messed up attempt at a remote cache I would like to be able to plot a route via aerial photos and download it my GPSr before making the attempt at these type of caches. I've downloaded a copy of Expert GPS and it's pretty good- takes a little time to figure out and is a little confusing in some areas but it's pretty good. However, my free trial will run out in another 20 days or so and before paying the 50 bucks I'm wondering what else is out there? What are other folks using and what do they like. Any feedback welcome.

If you're considering commercial software, I would have to recommend Topo USA from Delorme. It will do everything you want and more.

Thanks for the advice. I'd never heard of JDMcox software so I'll be sure to look into that.

Spent some time on the Delorme site and it looks like you have to pay an annual 30 dollar fee to download aerial photos? Is that correct or am I misunderstanding? It does look good, but it it's twice as much to purchase and has an annual fee I would probably stick with the Expert GPS program for the amount of use I would need.

Delorme changed their download structure very recently. I have two certificates that I got with their programs for $X worth of downloads. I haven't used the first one up yet, and it's been over a year. Even without the downloads, the basemaps are pretty darn good.

If it's something you're going to be doing a lot, it's worth the fee. If it's just for once in a while, probably not so much. Delorme is pretty good at giveing discounts. Their customer service is the best I've ever dealt with.
