MapSource

Hi all,

We're relatively new to Geocaching, but really enjoy it. Just picked up a Garmin GPS MAP 76s the other day and am trying to learn its "finer" points.

My question is this: I have MapSource METRO-GUIDE and would like to talk with someone on the phone, (MY DIME), in the greater Madison area on tips and techniques to select maps and download them to the 24 Mb. on the 76s.

Anyone out there who can assist?

I'm not in your area, but I can tell you I fit over 3/4 of Wisconsin in my 16MB Garmin Legend. If you pick out too much area, the program will tell you. I do not see any noticable difference in processor speed regardless if I load in 1 county or 20, so I just load the entire area I am likely to travel. If i'm going on a long trip, I bring my laptop so I can change the mapset in my gps as needed.

We are in Deforest. We have Mapsource TOPO, and a Etrex Yellow, Legend, and Rino 110, but it should be same uploading procedure I would think.

The Garmin legend loads maps exactly the same way as the 76S. The only difference for me when I load both of them is that I need to change the interface cable for the computer since the 76S uses the round 4 prong.
I am sure you have lots that can help you now. We have a lot of super tech types that are more then willing to share their knowledge.

Since we are kind of on the subject.... can anyone detail the differences between Garmin Roads & Recreation and Metro-Guide?
I use R&R, and have yet to find a road not mapped, including many logging trails in the northern half of the state, which really impressed me. I have ran into a new road or two that were built after the maps were made.
I know Metro-Guide has more POI's and will autoroute on a PC, but what else is different?

Metroguide also lets you find a specific street address, not just the street. At least that's what I remember from the last time I loaded a Metroguide into my GPS, which was about 2 years ago.
