The map is up!

I finally got everything working and uploaded the map. Once I got a new FTP program working (FileZilla), figured out which of my cryptic passwords was used for the website access, got the macro working right, only to find the online version still not working, got a new Google Maps API key, regenned the maps, which still didn't work, reloaded all the graphics (no help), and then realized that I was missing a "http://" in a directory string in the map HTML (ack!), it is now up and running. Have at it!

Sad thing is I followed everything he said, and to make it worse I said to myself, "sounds about typical, especially the passwords!"

I don't see why not. I just print off my Google map and expect to cover a 256' radius circle, per usual. If there's water it usually cuts down the search area. Usually, but not always. Twisted Evil

Maybe this was asked before in the past, but is the only reason you create this map for those without a premium membership?

Once the bookmark list is published, I turn it into a pocket query and then preview on the geocaching.com map. Works just the same...

Another question sort of related to the map and what it shows, are premium member only caches filtered from the LCG list initially upon creation of the list? Or are all caches listed purely on last find? I.e. do you check "are available to all users" on the PQ's you run to generate the list?

I only create the map because certain people who shall remain nameless (but their initials are LRWR) wink

whine when I don't.

Seriously, I think it helps people visualize where the caches are. Of course, it is easy enough to dump the query into any mapping program or even GSAK to see the same picture.

Well ya I know I was just saying I liked it. The color pushpins are mesmerizing and I like seeing what Deejay found by looking for the red ones. What can I say, I'm bored a lot.

And S|S. I like this map. I tried using the PQ and Google maps, but only a few pins show up. I'm on a map so I don't have that praised program GSAK and Terrabrowser wouldn't work that well since it is only remote imagery and few place names to reference. So count me in on the whiners. I don't even start thinking about going after lonely caches until the map comes out.

All of them show up for me... must be a browser (or mac) thing.

What do the various color pins mean anyway? I think there was a color I could not figure out the last time I looked. Perhaps red was the one I couldn't figure out why a specific cache had a red pin.

My work Internet access blocks the map site so I can't confirm or deny it was the red pin I was wondering about or whether there is a key on the map even for the colored pins. That tells you how often I look at it

Red pins = Dangerous caches
Green pins = Green light! Go get it before Dave revisits it.
Yellow pins = Caution (summer) or "don't eat the snow" (winter)
Blue pins = Caches that Deejay is sad about
Purple pins = Theme trading caches for Tinky Winky or Barney figurines
