At least I have an excuse. I had surgery a week ago. There are just enough LC's in SE Wisconsin to play, but not compete. Because of that my goal again for this year has been to finish in the top ten. I'm currently #12. As soon as I'm a little more mobile I still have 3 or 4 more I would like to get to this month. Since I'm one of the more prolific hiders in this part of the state it's the service part of the game rather than the competition for me.

With the scores being so lopsided I'm surprised so many participate.

Probably because it's more for fun than anything. After all why start geocaching at all when three teams in Wisconsin are over 10,000 finds and one is coming up on 20,000. Just like stats in general, LCG numbers mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Plus, if history is any teacher here, it's that nobody is truly "out of contention" such as it is, in any month or, for that matter, even over a larger period, should they wish to give it the ol' college try.

Which appeared to be the case. Some people have lives outside of the LCG. wink

Just commenting to Marc's puzzlement at the number of players. My point is it's fun to play regardless of what the "score" is, just like it's fun to cache regardless of how many you find (versus others).

I'll never catch the "runners" but what the heck. I only started a few months ago and I've managed to make it to #9 for the year. I only started caching in late June and decided to figure out what "lonely" meant. Why aren't people doing these? WHOA - A number from the masters of S|S, cheeto, sagasu, etc. Now I'm getting the picture. But even though I've bugged a number of you with tons of questions I'm totally hooked. For me it's the challenge of doing that most others don't want to do for whatever reason.

Thanks Code Junkie for saying what I wanted to say using all the right words!

There's just something different and seemingly more satisfying about chasing lonely caches than running pocket queries of the easiest caches in an area and trying to find 60+ caches.

Geocaching: a game for everyone's tastes. I love finding challenging lonely caches and especially lonely puzzle caches. Those are the best kind.

I haven't been "playing" recently because I haven't been geocaching recently. Simple answer for me Smile

Looks to be a good month for anyone to try for the win!
