Not sure how to ask this question so it makes sense. I have a NUVI 205 that we use for searches does it work the same way as a handheld or are readings different because it wants us to be on roads? |

I've used mine for caching before but be aware it's fragile, not waterproof, and has a limited battery life. Give it a try on a cache that doesn't require bushwacking or a long hike...and put it in pedestrian mode...just to see what it will do. But you'll go back to your handheld |

I could not use my nuvi even in pedestrian mode. One day I was at a park and my handheld died..so I had to go back to the nuvi and try it with that..didn't work for me..I sat in my car for a little bit to let the handheld charge then went out to look for the cache at the park (which I found).
The Nuvi is only good to take to parking spots and road side caches such as the Top Spot series. |

I don't even have an actual handheld. I use my PDA with a bluetooth GPSr and caching software on my PDA.
And I vouch for Bartrod's Lowrance. I've cached with him a few times and he's beaten me to the punch on many caches - lol. |
