2025-2026 Official Rules
Who can enter: WGA members and friends who have signed up on the WGA website
How to enter: Each member or friend can submit 1 official racer (in the event a geocaching team has more than 1 person, each person shall be permitted to submit 1 entry. Entries will be designated as: Team-Dad, Team-Mom, Team-Kid, etc., or whatever geonames differentiate you. Sorry, dogs, cats or other non-humans are ineligible.)
Racers must have zero mileage and be virtually dropped into the WGA Fall Campout (GCAQ3QT) event. Physically your trackable must be at the Fall event, brought by you, brought by your proxy, or given beforehand to a WGA BOD member who will serve as your proxy.
Winner: The travel bug to have the most traveled miles by the 2025 Fall event shall be declared the 1st place winner and their name will appear on the back of the WGA trailer plus receive a WGA Gift certificate valued at $20. The 2nd and 3rd place, determined by 2nd most traveled and 3rd most traveled respectively, will each receive a WGA gift certificate valued at $15 and $10 respectively.
Monthly- our goal is to have monthly race updates posted to the WGA website and Facebook page.
How will the trackables be dropped? Following the Fall event, the racers will be sent off on a road trip and randomly dropped in travel bug hotels over the course of a week or less. Official tracked miles for the travel bug race will start from the starting cache dropped in following the Fall event regardless of which cache it’s dropped in.
How will the mileage be tracked? All miles traveled will count. (Official starting zero will be from the cache they are dropped off in. The distance from the fall event to the drop point will be subtracted from the the final mileage to determine the standings and winners.)
As this is a WGA game, if any questions come up, clarification will be at the discretion of the Board.
The fine print:
Official race end time will be Thursday evening before the next fall campout to allow for final race finisher calculations.
Standings will be by geocaching.com mileage. Each visit and drop, by any cacher will count. What geocaching.com shows as mileage, is what mileage you get (minus adjustment from Fall campout to initial drop point. That milage will be published on wi-geocaching.com so you can monitor your status at any time between official updates.)
You may not move your own or your immediate family member’s trackables. You may move any other racer’s trackables, but no intentional hindering competitor (i.e. purposely putting in a high D/T cache or rarely visited cache).
You may not mail or virtually move your trackable during the race period. Note: Discovered while geocaching – Locationless Cache (GC9FAVE) would be an example of a virtual move due to it being a Locationless Cache type. If your racer gets dropped or dipped into this or another Locationless cache, you will need to delete those logs.
Improperly dipped trackables will be requested to have their logs fixed by the owner. This can happen if people do not log their finds in order. We will notify you if we are made aware of this. Failure to fix the issue can result in disqualification.
Racers can only be held for up to 30 days by a WGA member, and each TB can only be picked up once by a WGA member, otherwise the TB can be disqualified at the board’s discretion.
No proxy re-entries are allowed. If any of your original entries go missing, then their race is finished. After the race ends, you are welcome to send out a proxy to continue as a traditional travel bug.
Awards will be given to top overall 3 mileage finishers. Also, recognition for top number of countries visited and number of cachers who moved a traveler.
Do not forget this is supposed to be a fun and light hearted competition. Anyone not playing by the rules will simply be disqualified. Please ask the WGA Board if you have any questions!
