College Credit for Geocaching?
6/15/2006
I recieved a PM from one of our members in the Manitowoc area. He has asked me for help with a course he’s teaching at Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland. Not a problem, I said, “How many students do you have?” “That’s the other reason I need your help…”
If you’re in the mood to return to school, this may be your chance. As of June 15, 2006 the class only has a couple of students. There is room for more! However time is running short.
On Friday evening (5:30-9:30) and Saturday (8-4), June 22 and 23, Benfield Crew will be teaching a geocaching course at Lakeshore Technical College. It is a college credit course (1 credit – meeting for 12 hours – cost is $95) and is part of the GPS Certificate that LTC is offering.
The general outline would be spending Friday night talking about the activity, rules, safety, techniques, web sites, and software that is all used. They have already had several GPS courses run, so the students who have enrolled so far already have those skills, but he would include a review for those who do not have that background. We would also then gather information and plan for finding real caches. Then on Saturday we would spend the morning on campus practicing with some easier temporary caches and then go out in the afternoon to find real ones in the area.
Anyone interested will need to contactBenfieldCrew as soon as possible.
