Website Update 11/28

The website still isn’t as snappy as I would like, but it is getting better. I haven’t found a single “smoking gun”, but lot’s of little things that were adding up. There’s still a lot of things that can be done to improve page load time, and I will be working on it as time allows.

Today I was working on the main navigation menu. It’s close to what I want it to look like, but I’m having trouble getting rid of the green color when hovering on sub menu items.

I’ll also be working on getting rid of some odd looking color combinations in certain areas. I’m learning way more about CSS than I ever wanted to know.

Keep watching here for announcements on the date and location of the WGA Winter event, as well as other organization news.

Website Update 11/25

The website was in “Maintenance Mode” for most of the day yesterday because it became almost unusable. I am working with tech support to try to resolve the problems with the website.
I am going to make the website available, but please be aware that we are currently experiencing technical difficulties. I’ll keep working on this until it is fixed.

Website Slowness and Mobile

I am working on finding out why the website is so SLOW!. I am doing what I can to speed things up, and I’m sure I’ll find the cause soon.

My apologies to mobile user. I had to disable the mobile functionality for a short time. I am looking for a something that works as well or better than what was online for a short time.

Welcome to the new WGA Website

website

Welcome to the new WGA website! There are still a lot of things that need to be tweaked, but everything should be functional.
If you were registered on this website before, you will need to click on the “Forgot Password” link and re-set your password. If you have kept your membership current, you should have access to all features of the website. If not, you will have to update your membership. If you are not currently a member of the Wisconsin Geocaching Association, consider signing up. It’s free!
If you find any problems with the website, contact the webmaster, any BOD member or post in the forums. Posting about website issues on FaceBook or other social networking sites will probably not be effective.

We hope you enjoy the new website!

The Squirrel gets a Brain Transplant

We will start changing over to the new website software starting Monday, November 17th. The WGA website will be down for approximately two days for data conversion and transfer.

One of the greatest assets of the WGA is our history, much of which is contained in the pages this website. Every effort has been taken to not only preserve all of the articles and posts, but to make it more accessible to WGA members. Lots of interesting information going back over a dozen years will be online and easy to find.

Some other notable changes include easier navigation, integration with social network sites and integrated maps. Of course the Lonely Cache Game, Cache Rescues, Recent Wisconsin Geocaching Logs and Upcoming Events will be available as well. The forums will undergo a major transformation, but all of the existing posts will be transferred.

Please note that all users will be required to reset their password. Since this is done through email, please make sure that the email address in your profile is correct and up-to-date. Contact the webmaster or any BOD member if you need assistance with this.

I plan on posting updates of the conversion and transfer on Facebook. Check back often to keep up to date.

Demo Video of the new WGA website can be found at http://youtu.be/O-tL_ij9qT8.

New WGA will be here soon!

Big Things are coming to the WGA website!

Through the hard work of the WGA webmaster, Team Black Cat has created a new WGA website and we will launch it very soon with plans being before the end of November.

Soon, Team Black Cat will be posting an announcement with an expected timeline of the activities. For those that saw the preview of the new site at the Campout, this will have been worth the wait!
