WGA Ice Age Trail Series

In case you missed our announcement at the WGA Fall Campout, a bunch of new caches, or discussions on Facebook but the WGA has launched a new series of caches along the Ice Age Trail!

In partnership and approval with the Ice Age Trail Alliance (https://iceagetrail.org) the Wisconsin Geocaching Association has worked with our many trail-bosses in secret to bring this series to life for all geocachers. This new series is made up of 31 caches, one for each county the trail travels through plus a bonus cache at the IAT Alliance Headquarters in Cross Plains.

What Is The Ice Age Trail?

More than 12,000 years ago, an immense flow of glacial ice sculpted a landscape of remarkable beauty across Wisconsin. As the glacier retreated, it left behind a variety of unique landscape features. These glacial remnants are now considered among the world’s finest examples of how continental glaciation sculpts our planet.

The Ice Age National Scenic Trail is a thousand-mile footpath that highlights these landscape features as it travels through some of the state’s most beautiful natural areas. The Trail is entirely within Wisconsin and is one of only eleven National Scenic Trails.

Why The New Series?

Since we have such a special and unique national scenic trail throughout our state why not highlight what it has to offer! Our goal is to work with the Ice Age Trail Alliance to get more geocachers to explore and showcase the Ice Age National Scenic Trail and the various unique landscapes created by the glaciers in our great state.

Glacial Lobes And Pathtags

To help highlight the glaciers that help sculpt WI and the landscape features along the trail we have created a series of pathtags. We will have the following set of 6 pathtags available to purchase at future WGA events. To learn more about each of the different glacial lobes please check out our page about the series by clicking here.

How To Find?

Feel free to check out the map on our website here or better yet view/download all the caches to your phone or GPS using our bookmark list available here (https://coord.info/BMA6AFX).

Gotta Find Them All!

Do you have the goal to find all 31 caches? Well we hope you do, some might find them all yet this year, others might take a few years. We aim to keep this series around as long as we can as we know everyone will search them at a different pace.

When you find them all though please reach out to anyone on the WGA Board and we will work to send you this special Final Pathtag as a prize. Wondering how many others and maybe yourself have found? You can check out our IAT Series Top Finders List and see where you are placed!

Community Celebration Events – WGA Gift Card Giveaways

We recently had a member reach out and ask the WGA Board asking for raffle donations for their Community Celebration event. We liked the idea and upset that we didn’t think of it sooner. We figured what better way can the WGA giveback to its WGA Member Community for the Community Celebration Events.

So we are happy to announce that we have approved up to 20 member hosted Community Celebration events can request to receive up to $15 in WGA Merchandise Gift Cards to use as raffle prizes or giveaways for their event. We apologize to those who have already hosted their event that we didn’t think of this idea sooner but hope you have a chance to receive one of these gift cards as a prize at someone else’s event.

How to request: First you must have your upcoming Community Celebration event published on geocaching.com. Then reach out to any WGA Board member, contact us through our FB Page, or send a message to our WGA Geocaching account with the GC Code for your event and an email address to send the gift cards to. Also let us know how you would like the $15. For example, 1-$15 gift card, 2-$7.50 gift cards, 3-$5 gift cards, 1-$10 and 1-$5 gift card, or any other combination that adds up to $15. Then plan to print off the gift card codes received and/or forward the gift card email to the winners.

How to use the Gift Card: For those that win/earn a gift card from a WGA member hosted Community Celebration event, make sure to not loose the gift card code you received as that is the only way to be able to use it. Then at a future event where WGA merchandise is sold, provide the gift card code when checking out to have it be credited to your final total.
