Volunteers Needed – Merrick State Park
The Friends of Merrick State Park have reached to the WGA seeking volunteers to present a Geocaching 101 class. They offer presentations on Saturday evenings at the Merrick State Park Nature Center at 7 PM all summer long for park visitors. These are well received and it sounds like a great opportunity to introduce geocaching! WGA does have the GEO 101 presentation available for anyone to use. Merrick State Park is located at S2965 WI-35, Fountain City. If you are able to do this, please reach out to the WGA BOD at [email protected] and we can connect you to the Friends group to set the date! Many thanks for your consideration, AuntieNae

Volunteers Needed –
The Wisconsin DNR has asked if the WGA might have volunteers to promote geocaching at this upcoming event: In 2018, the DNR launched a health and wellness initiative called “OutWiGo”. OutWiGo encourages everyone to explore Wisconsin’s beautiful outdoors and fresh air by getting out and enjoying Wisconsin’s state parks, forests, trails and recreation areas. In 2019, we held our OutWiGo Girls event to encourage people, especially those who identify as girls and women, to get outside and try new activities. We had great success with over 1500 participants. After a COVID hiatus, we’re excited to offer the second OutWiGo spring event. This year’s them is “OutWIGo Green” and the event will be Saturday, May 13 at the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Southern Unit. The goal is to invite and welcome new (green) non-traditional park users in all types of recreation that our state parks and forest have to offer. We envision a wide variety of fun-filled, interactive, affordable activities that build confidence for (new) park goers. We aim to provide safe space for all Wisconsinites to recreate and be comfortable in our state parks, forests, and trails. The event will run from 10 AM – 4 PM and they will provide a table and space for the activities. If this is something you would be available to take on, please contact the WGA Board via email: [email protected]
West Allis Library is seeking Volunteer to teach Geocaching 101
Good Morning – The West Allis Library has reached out to the WGA to find a volunteer to lead a Geocaching 101 type program for their “Leisure Learners” program on the first Tuesday of the month, in May, June or July at 10:30 AM for about an hour. The “Leisure Learners” are primarily adults although it could include homeschooled Teens. They thought it would be fun to introduce geocaching and perhaps make and hide a geocache around the Library grounds. The Library is willing to purchase supplies so participants could be engaged in the creation. If this is something you have the time this summer and could take on, the WGA does have a Geo101 presentation you could use. Please reach out to [email protected] for further details so we can connect you with the Library staff. Many thanks, AuntieNae
Lonely Cache Game 2022 Results
Written by: lacknothing (Marie Lackore)
The 2022 LCG is a wrap! In a surprise move, Forkycache, made her way into the first place spot with 1371 points. Congrats to Forky and let’s see if you can keep at it in 2023. Sevencards followed closely in second place with 1323 points. Third place goes to Gypsyseeker with 1201 points. Breaking into the top five for the first time is chevyole in fourth place with 1043 points and wrapping up in fifth place and no stranger to finishing in the top 10 is Lacknothing with 959.5 points. It was a great year and 2023 is going to be even better – right!?
Gypsyseeker led the charge with 68 cache rescues. Following in second was JimandLinda with 60; chevyole in third with 40; scooter2010 in fourth with 25 and Lacknothing in fifth with 15. In total, there were 225 cache rescues for 2022 – which is AWESOME! This part of the LCG game ensures that we do NOT leave our “geojunk” in the woods. The Cache Rescue can also be used if a CO is unable to perform cache maintence and needs help – the CO can submit a mission with specific instructions! Congrats to JimandLinda, all time Cache Rescue leader with 295 cache rescues! That is amazing!
Thanks to all for helping to keep the Wisconsin Geocaching gameboard fresh!
