For anyone that is interested in joining us, we will be leading a beginners’ geocache hunt this Wednesday at 4PM in Elkhorn. Meet at the ElkNet Internet parking lot in the rear of 216 W. Walworth St. (Hwy 11), or you may enter from 16 N. Church St. There are three teams at present attending.
We will cover the following:
- GPSR terms and basic usage
- Waypoint entry and goto navigation
- Selecting a cache on geocaching.com
- Using a compass in the hunt
- Handling a cache
- Logging your hunt
As part of the afternoon, we will hunt an area cache that you may log on geocaching.com if you have registered on that site.
If you have any questions, please post them here
05/07/2002 at 2:02 am #1734999Sounds COOL! Wish we could be there to listen in and get a few more pointers or even help out since it’s extremely close to home! Darn it! I work late on Wednesday. I guess I have to wait to the camp-out to meet everyone!
For any new geocachers……GO! I know from first hand with Team Cachecows that you will be educated and ready to geocache once you learn from the Pro’s! Have fun!

05/09/2002 at 7:51 pm #1735001Well, we think the class and hunt went well
We know we had fun, and the other three teams seemed to have a great time, they each made an independant find of the ‘Little bit of Paradise’ cache!
For anyone who is interested, let us know by posting here if you are interested in any future classes, workshops, or group hunts.
05/10/2002 at 12:55 pm #1735002Well, I was one of the beginners on the course and it was great. The weather held up and we learned quite a bit.
Thanks to CacheCows. It was a great time.

Do most of the attendees already have GPSRs? Or are most in the selection stage still? Reason I ask is that I know that you have Lowerance and Magellan covered. If some of your future events have participants that still haven’t chosen a unit, I would be happy to lend my Garmin, or attend with it, so they could compare the three major brands, and also have an extra unit to use for the hunt. Just an idea
05/10/2002 at 1:41 pm #1735004Thraxman, you’re on! We would love to have your participation! At this last gathering, one team has not yet selected a GPSR, the other two already owned theirs. We had a spare Maggy 315 and a spare Maggy 330, and the team without used the 315.
