The winner by 1 hr. 5 min. is Team FolkTrackers. They just beat Team Lotsacache, a team that came out of nowhere, hunting these caches with 3 young children(all under 5 years of age). Special mention goes to this team!!!!
Congrats to all who participated and helped make this a truly memorable experience for me and the geocaching community in general. A total of 19 teams hunted these caches over the last week. Thanks to you all![This message has been edited by Jonathan F. Gorton (edited 07-08-2003).]
07/03/2003 at 2:40 am #1735563Kudos, Accolades, Great Standing Ovation and cheers. Badlatitude will confirm that we had predicted a Folk Trakers victory, but we hadn’t considered the potential of Team LotsaCache. They completely surprised all of us. Both teams deserve special recognition and praise. This hasn’t been an easy task, so we don’t mind saying we tip our hats to you. Now go get some sleep.
07/03/2003 at 3:00 pm #1735564If anyone knows Folk Trakers like we do, they know how competative Bill and Steph are…Congratulations you guys! Now take a rest so we can catch back up to you. GnS
07/09/2003 at 5:31 pm #1735565A week later and we are still trying to recover from our non-stop SOM hunting.
We would like to take a few moments and thank team Lotsacache; without them we may have never completed this series in such a short amount of time. They showed the heart of great cachers and they pushed us along. One hour is all that separated our teams on the final cache, but that could be said of many caches that we found just hours after they did. The ‘ifs’ are plentiful but there can be no mistaking that this series brought out a new and energized team. We look forward to meeting you and seeing more of you on the trails.
Thank you Lotsacache! Now we all know Socko, but what was he drinking the night he dreamed up this event?! The time and energy it took to not only place all of these caches but to make and maintain the caches was impressive. Thank you to Socko’s family for putting up with the chaos this type of event can cause. Socko has set us on a new course, a course that has given us a renewed energy for this great sport. We can only imagine what Socko is dreaming up next but we are sure that it can only get better.
Our hats off to Socko and his team for a job well done!!As a final thought, although the ‘competition’ may be over, EVERYONE should complete the SOM series.
There is something invigorating about so many caches in such new places.
We can only say that this whole experience has changed our State Of Mind.Thank you Socko!
07/10/2003 at 3:00 pm #1735566Just wondering, what was the final prize?
07/10/2003 at 3:36 pm #1735567We don’t think Socko expected the flurry of activity this caused. In speaking with him, he is still putting together the cache. We were promised a multi-cache that would be the hardest yet. We are eagerly anticipating another fun journey. We’ll keep you posted.
