Hotdogs_Off_Trail were featured in a Wisconsin State Journal article on geocaching this past Sunday. They did a nice job hosting the reporter on a cache hunt. Here’s the link: http://www.madison.com/archives/read.php?ref=wsj:2003:08:24:278479 AYBREAK

P.S. I don’t belive I said geocaching would be the “next big hobby to sweep America”. The reporter asked me that question, but I declined to characterize geocaching that way because, just like bicycling, hiking, or hunting, geocaching is not for everyone.

Glad to see some more good in the media spotlight! This summer for us has been all about telling our friends and family about geocaching but until our Honeymoon last week it’s been “all talk, no caching”. hehe

Now that our wedding is done I’m hoping we’ll be able to shift into some cacheing gears

Time for catchup on WI Geocaching news too for us

Hey, congratulations on your wedding! Here’s to many more cache hunts together for the two of you.

Very nice geoaching website, by the way.

Great Job folks! Great article with some well worded quotes. I also loved the photos that appeared in the actual paper version.

Thanks, Brian. I tried to come up with a better quote… something about aliens and Pong, but I couldn’t think fast enough.

For those wondering what the heck I’m talking about, see this article: http://www.jsonline.com/news/metro/aug01/geo27082601a.asp We still love giving Yawningdog a hard time about that one.

To those that make up the rank and file of the WGA, and to our board, I want to thankyou for making this site such a friendly place.

A couple of years ago, I used to be right on the heels of Markwell on prolific posting to the geocachng.com threads. I was in the top 5 posters as I recall. A number of times, I took part in the mighty flame wars that sparked off so easily. The mightyest I believe was the war when Charter Memberships were enacted. I eventually grew disenhearted on those forums, and when Jeremy put the new forums up, basically wiping the slate clean, I backed away from them.

I’m posting this here because I learned of this excellent Wisconsin State Journal article upon a recent pass through the geocaching.com forums to see what was new. In that pass, I saw a reference to the article, but the thread it was in demonstrated to me that the geocaching.com forums, to a great extent, can still be as nasty a place as ever.

So, I will stay here, amongst a kinder, gentler, more gracious and civilized people. To those that make this place what it is, thankyou…

P.S. Oh yeah, what they said… Nice Article!

Just read both articles (2001 and 2003). Both do a nice job introducing the sport and the interviewees. Great job to all who were interviewed.

I’ve also got to log a strong agreement with CacheCows on the friendly and civil nature of the discussion boards here as opposed to the geocaching.com boards. I’m a veteran BBSer and participate in about a dozen Yahoo discussion groups and have survived quite a few Usenet flame wars and I haven’t found many places friendlier or easier than right here. Thanks everyone!
