Well, I/we took the plunge! For many moons I’ve (Tony of the WISearchers) has been planning an original twist of the geocaching proposal idea. I’ve seen a few people on http://www.geocaching.com get engaged by way of finding a cache with a big rock inside of it, but I thought, “that’s been done”.

So, on Friday afternoon, I started my girlfriend on a geocaching adventure; one where I was the final cache! (oh yeah, and a big rock too.)

The name of the four part multicache was “Diamond in the Rough” which I mirrored on Frontpage from a real cache online. (Thanks Trudy and the Beast!)

Then the first coordinates took her to the parking ramp in downtown Madison. (This ramp has a lot of meaning, well as much meaning a ramp can have to a couple) It’s where we both parked when we went to go meet for our blind date, and where we kissed at the end of it!

From there she had to fill in the coordinates from different questions about us (a la Lil Otter’s puzzle caches). At the fourth stage, (the capitol building steps) I stood patiently squinting my eyes looking down state street, looking for a beautiful woman looking down with a GPSr in her hand.

Finally, there she came! At the top of the steps I heard about her slight misdirection and minor goof ups that took her in the wrong direction. I gave her back a ring that I “borrowed” a few months back to get a close size. (Turns out she tried to file a claim with her insurance! I had to keep quiet, and the insurance co. turned her down. So at least we won’t be going to jail)

Then I told her a bunch of mushy stuff to hot and steamy for this page, . I showed her the final cache container, a ring box from a national jewelry store and bent down on one knee and asked her to marry me.

She said “Of Course!!!” Now we are gloating and telling everyone our story of Geocaching Love!

Oh yeah, and she was clueless to the whole thing, even right up to the end. The title “Diamond in the Rough” or the waypoints named WYMM #1, #2… (Will You Marry Me) did not give her any indication what I was up to!

Hey, that’s really cool! Congratulations to both of you. Now all you need to do is make your wedding an event cache.

What a brilliant idea! Congratulations! Mrs. Traker got all sappy reading this story–just like a soap opera, with a happy ending. What creativity–may your future journeys all be as special as this!

That’s sooo romantic.. hard to think that a geocacher could go out of zone like that and actually have a life (giggles)
