I think one of the really nice things that made geocaching special to me when I got started was Trudy & the Beast congratulating everyone on their Milestones. In fact, many cachers tried to sneak one by them.
As always happens – we have grown too big to keep track and congratulate everyone.
I would suggest a monthly milestone thread such as “April Milestones” where we can add on everyone in Wisconsin who has made one.
While the individual posts are more personal, I hate to see anyone missed.
What do the rest of you think?
Should there be a special section on the message board for just milestones?
Give me some thoughts before I start posting some milestones separately.04/15/2004 at 1:58 am #1736878I think your idea would have been great before House of Brew got the automated stats page dialed in. Now it’s pretty much impossible to miss a milestone. I have always enjoyed picking through the “recent logs” page to see what the others are up to. Now it’s unnecessary, unless I want to beat the bot by a few hours.
I like the personalization of being first to congratulate someone I have met on the trail, vs. someone I have never met. I think milestones are something best shared on a personal level within our membership, but need not be a prominent part of the association website. (On the other hand, I am still all for integrating Brew’s site into the WGA site, much like Buxley’s site is now)
One of the things that I reflect on with much gratitude, and I’m sure many others too, is the e-mail I recieved from T&B after my FIRST find. I think it would be great if we could det up a system that makes sure every new WI cacher gets an introductory e-mail from the WGA. Most cachers I have met on the trail did not even know about the WGA. If it were not for you folks, i’m not so sure I would have kept on doing it, much less learn all the great things I have learned here. This could be set up very similarly to how the stats page works now, just looking for cachers logging their first find.
My $.02, take it for what it’s worth.

I was very surprised they noticed our *first find* log, and was very touched by the email.
