Attention Cache of the Month voters: You have spoken out, and your WGA Board of Directors has listened. As of January 1st, 2005, event caches will no longer be eligible for Cache of the Month honors. After January 1st, 2005, event caches that are nominated for Cache of the Month will be removed from the voting page. We are also mulling over the best way to implement an Event Cache of the Year award, so stay tuned.
This was obviously a hot topic, and I thank the board members for their decision to take action. Thanks also to Wizbit for getting the ball rolling.
Speaking as someone who has attended a couple events and plans on running one (with ecorangers) in the year to come …
This is a good change, thanks for doing it.
I’m not sure what the magic answer is as to how to properly recognize the efforts of events … but ideas that come to mind … have a special place for people to post their thank yous (maybe a MAIN subject on the message board of “Wisc. Geo Event Thank Yous”, then the SUB subjects could be the name of the events … or maybe the MAIN subject should just be “Wisc. Geo Events”, then the event planners can “advertise” their events, then after the event, it can start filling up with praise of the event. Beyond that, maybe a special place to vote for “Event of the Year”.
Thanks to the WGA board for taking this issue into the discussion and implementation phase.
I think most people that responded to the thread will be happy with your decision.
Thank you to the Board for their quick action and decisiveness. I eagerly await suggestions or decisions regarding event caches. I wouldn’t want those who take the time and energy to plan and prepare them to feel slighted. thanks again!
